                        Yegor Dyachkov, violoncelle
                        Loué pour sa remarquable présence sur scène, sa qualité
                        d’écoute, son jeu nuancé et sa générosité, le violoncelliste
                        Yegor Dyachkov est un récitaliste, chambriste et soliste
                        inspiré. Proclamé Artiste de l’année par la Société Radio-
                        Canada, il se produit en Europe, en Asie, en Amérique
                        Latine, au Canada et aux États-Unis, où il fait ses débuts
                        au Lincoln Center de New York en octobre 2000. Il est
l’invité de grands orchestres comme ceux d’Anvers, de Genève, de Montréal, de
Rio de Janeiro, de Toronto, de Vancouver et il participe à de nombreux festivals
internationaux, dont ceux d’Évian, de Kronberg, de Lanaudière, d’Ottawa et de
Tanglewood.

La musique de chambre demeurant au centre de ses intérêts, Yegor Dyachkov
s’associe aux quatuors Arditti, Borromeo et St. Lawrence, aux pianistes
Jean Saulnier, Anton Kuerti et Marc-André Hamelin, aux violonistes James
Clark, Jonathan Crow, Antje Weithaas, Scott St. John et Yehonatan Berick, au
violoncelliste Steven Isserlis et aux clarinettistes James Campbell et Todd Palmer.
Il est membre de Triple Forte et fondateur de l’Ensemble Magellan.

Grâce à l’obtention du premier prix au Concours international d’Orford en 1997,
il réalise son premier disque compact en gravant, pour la maison Chandos, le
Concerto Ballata de Glazounov. D’autres disques, tous accueillis avec éloges par
la critique, sont publiés par les maisons Analekta, Brioso, Atma, Doberman-Yppan
et SRC/Riche-Lieu.

Interprète de choix de la musique contemporaine d’aujourd’hui, Yegor Dyachkov
est soliste lors de la première française au festival d’Évian et de la première
canadienne à Winnipeg de Diplipito de Giya Kancheli. Il est aussi le dédicataire
d’oeuvres de Michael Oesterle, Jacques Hétu, André Prévost and Ana Sokolović.
Yo-Yo Ma et Sony Music l’invitent en outre à participer au « Silk Road Project ».

Yegor Dyachkov a étudié avec Aleksandr Fedorchenko à Moscou, Yuli Turovsky
à Montréal, puis Boris Pergamenschikow à Cologne. Il a également bénéficié
des conseils de Mstislav Rostropovitch, André Navarra, David Geringas et Frans
Helmersson. Monsieur Dyachkov enseigne à l’Université McGill et à l’Université
de Montréal, où il est responsable du secteur des cordes.

Lauded for his remarkable stage presence, depth of insight, nuance, and generosity, cellist Yegor
Dyachkov is an inspired recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist Since being proclaimed
Artist of the Year by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and winning the Young Canadian
Musician Award in 2000, Mr. Dyachkov has gone on to perform throughout Europe, Latin America,
Asia, Canada, and the United States, making his New York debut at Lincoln Center in October
2000. He has appeared with major orchestras in such cities as Antwerp, Geneva, Montreal, Rio de
Janeiro, Toronto, and Vancouver, and has performed at numerous international festivals in Évian,
Kronberg, Lanaudière, Ottawa, Prussia Cove and Tanglewood.

Recent performances featured Mr. Dyachkov with the Calgary Philharmonic (Tchaikovsky Rococo
Variations) and with the Laval Symphony Orchestra (Brahms Double Concerto, with violinist Andrew
Wan). In the coming months, three CDs will be launched: violin and cello duos with Olivier Thouin
(Analekta), chamber works of Serge Arcuri, and the debut recording of Triple Forte (both on Atma).

Deeply committed to chamber music, Yegor Dyachkov has performed with the Arditti, Borromeo and
St. Lawrence Quartets, pianists Anton Kuerti, Marc-André Hamelin and Stéphane Lemelin, violinists
James Clark, Jonathan Crow, Antje Weithaas, Scott St. John and Yehonatan Berick, cellist Steven
Isserlis, and clarinetists James Campbell and Todd Palmer. In the year 2007, he founded the Magellan
Ensemble, with violinist Olivier Thouin, violist Yukari Cousineau and pianist Jean Saulnier. He is also
part of Triple Forte, with violinist Jasper Wood and pianist David Jalbert.

Winning the Orford International Competition in 1997 led to an invitation from Chandos to record
his debut CD featuring Glazunov’s Concerto Ballata. Yegor Dyachkov subsequently made critically
acclaimed recordings including sonatas by Brahms (Analekta), works by Prokofiev and Stravinsky
(Analekta), the cello concerto by Dvorak (Riche Lieu), the sonatas by Shostakovich, Schnittke and
Prokofiev (Pelléas, Opus Prize 2001), works by Jacques Hétu and André Prévost (Doberman-Yppan),
as well as sonatas by Strauss and Pfitzner (Brioso). His performances have been broadcast and
televised in Canada and abroad.

A champion of new music, Yegor Dyachkov accords a prominent place to contemporary music in
his repertoire. He gave the premiere performances of several works that are dedicated to him: the
Sonata by Jacques Hétu, Ironman for cello and orchestra and The Agate Rosary for cello and piano
by Michael Oesterle, Vez for solo cello by Ana Sokolović, as well as Menuhin : Présence, a concerto
written for him by the late André Prévost. Mr. Dyachkov was soloist for the first French performance
of Giya Kancheli’s Diplipito for cello, counter-tenor and orchestra at Rostropovich’s Evian Festival and
for the North American premiere in Winnipeg. He has also been invited by Yo-Yo Ma and Sony Music
to take part in the Silk Road Project.

Born in Moscow in 1974, Mr. Dyachkov studied with Aleksandr Fedorchenko in Moscow, Yuli Turovsky
in Montréal and Boris Pergamenschikow in Cologne. The breadth of Yegor Dyachkov’s musical
commitment also extends to teaching master classes and to maintaining a dialogue with young
musicians. He teaches at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, and at the University of
Montreal, where he is Head of the String Department.

                        Jean Saulnier mène une active carrière de soliste, de
                        chambriste et de pédagogue. Au fil des ans, il a acquis
                        une vaste expérience du répertoire solo et de musique
                        de chambre. Son aisance, sa souplesse et sa qualité
                        d’écoute en font un partenaire recherché comme en
                        témoignent ses nombreuses collaborations avec les
                        meilleurs musiciens canadiens et étrangers.

Jean Saulnier a remporté de nombreux prix dans des concours nationaux et
internationaux, dont le William Kapell, le Prix d’Europe, et le Leschetizky. Il se
produit au Canada, aux États-Unis, en Amérique du Sud et en Europe et il a
été l’invité de plusieurs orchestres, dont l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal,
l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec, l’Orchestre Métropolitain, le Rochester
Philharmonic et l’ensemble I Musici de Montréal. On peut également l’entendre
dans les plus importants festivals de musique au pays ainsi qu’à la radio de la
Société Radio-Canada. Jean Saulnier a enregistré plusieurs œuvres majeures
du répertoire de musique de chambre avec ses partenaires de longue date, le
violoncelliste Yegor Dyachkov et le clarinettiste André Moisan, sur les étiquettes
Pelléas, ATMA, Analekta et Doberman-Yppan. En 2002, il a aussi réalisé sur un
Pleyel de 1848 un enregistrement de Chopin, dont on a souligné l’originalité
et le raffinement. Depuis, il a eu plusieurs occasions de jouer sur ce rare et
remarquable instrument. Ces différentes expériences l’ont amené peu à peu à
modifier sa perspective de l’esthétique de la musique de Chopin.

Jean Saulnier a étudié avec Marc Durand, Leon Fleisher et André Laplante.
Son doctorat de l’Université de Montréal lui a valu la Médaille d’or académique
du Gouverneur Général. Il est professeur agrégé à la Faculté de musique de
l’Université de Montréal où il enseigne depuis plus de 20 ans. Il dirige une classe
de piano très dynamique dont sont issus plusieurs musiciens reconnus sur la
scène professionnelle. Il donne aussi régulièrement des classes de maître dans
différentes institutions supérieures d’enseignement et siège sur de nombreux
jurys de concours nationaux et internationaux, d’institutions supérieures
d’enseignement et d’organismes gouvernementaux d’aide aux artistes.

Jean Saulnier leads an active career as a recitalist, chamber musician and teacher, with broad
experience in both the solo and the chamber music repertoire. He is a sought-after collaborator by
the best musicians from Canada and abroad, speaking eloquently to the flexibility, natural playing
ability, and spirit of partnership he brings to every performance.

A recipient of numerous prizes in national and international competitions, including the William Kapell
International Competition, the Prix d’Europe and the Leschetizky Competition, Jean Saulnier has
performed in Canada, United States, South America and Europe. He has been guest soloist with
renowned orchestras such as the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique
de Québec, the Orchestre Métropolitain, the Rochester Philharmonic and I Musici de Montréal. He is
frequently heard in major Canadian music festivals and on CBC radio.

Performing with his long-time partners’ cellist Yegor Dyachkov and clarinetist André Moisan, Jean
Saulnier has recorded many major works from the chamber music repertoire on the Pelléas, ATMA,
Analekta and Doberman-Yppan recording labels. His 2002 recording of a Chopin recital on an
1848 Pleyel has also been praised for its refinement and originality. Since then he has had many
opportunities to play this rare and wonderful instrument. Over time these investigations gave shape
to a deeper awareness of the esthetics of Chopin’s music.

Jean Saulnier studied with Marc Durand, Leon Fleisher, and André Laplante. His doctorate from the
University of Montreal was saluted with the Governor General’s Academic Gold Medal. He is currently
Associate Professor at the Music Faculty of the University of Montreal where he has been teaching
for over 20 years. He is regularly invited to give master classes at institutions of higher education.
He frequently serves as a jury member for national and international competitions, higher education
institutions and government agencies.
