Liberal Theory of Collective Rights (MQUP, 2017), De la tolérance à la
reconnaissance (Boréal, 2008) et L'institution du langage (PUM, 2005).

diplômes en esthétique de la Sorbonne (Université Paris-Ill), Alain
Deneault est l?auteur de plusieurs essais et articles scientifiques,
dont notamment Noir Canada (Écosociété, 2008), Gouvernance ? Le
Management totalitaire (Lux, 2013), Paradis fiscaux. La filière
canadienne (Écosociété, 2014), Médiocratie (Lux, 2015) et Une
escroquerie légalisée : Précis sur les « paradis fiscaux » (Écosociété,
2016).

ARNOLD BERLEANT
est professeur émérite de philosophie à l?Université Long Island. Il
est l?auteur de plusieurs livres, y compris Art and Engagement
(Temple University, 1991) et Re-Thinking Aesthetics (Ashgate, 2005),
ainsi que de près d?une centaine d?articles. Il est également
corédacteur, avec Allan Carlson, des volumes The Aesthetics of
Natural Environments (Broadview, 2004) et The Aesthetics of Human
Environments (Broadview, 2007). L?? uvre de Berleant s?étend à des
domaines aussi variés que l?esthétique, l?art, l?éthique et la
philosophie sociale. Il est ancien président de l?Association
internationale d?esthétique et rédacteur en chef du journal
Contemporary Aesthetics.

Berleant?s work ranges over aesthetics, the arts, ethics, and social
philosophy. He is a Past President of the International Association
of Aesthetics, and Editor-in-Chief of Contemporary Aesthetics.

                  L'économie, un concept polysémique dévoyé
                               par l'économisme
Puisque la philosophie consiste à cultiver des raisonnements paradoxaux, risquons
celui-ci: le concept d'économie en Occident ne saurait désigner en propre les enjeux
d'argent, de production, de distribution, de consommations et de thésaurisation
auxquels on le réduit aujourd'hui. Il ne se laisse pas non plus entièrement contenir dans
la fameuse «Loi de l'habitat» qu'annonce son étymologie. Entre cet usage contemporain
et ce moment premier, le terme économie a fait l'objet d'usages majeurs dans le
domaine des sciences de la nature, de la psychologie, de la théologie et de la
philosophie, qu'on serait bien avisé de rappeler pour mieux définir un concept
aujourd'hui dévoyé.

Dans le cadre de cette table ronde, Margaux Ruellan (Université de Montréal) et
Jonathan Durand Folco (Université Saint-Paul) testent l?hypothèse suivant laquelle la
démocratie municipale participative est un instrument essentiel de la transition vers
une société post-capitaliste axée sur les communs. Les villes seraient non seulement
des milieux, mais aussi des moyens justes et efficaces pour mettre en marche une telle
transformation sociale. La démocratie municipale participative permettrait de briser les
dynamiques systémiques d?accaparement des milieux urbains par le capital, et serait un
contexte institutionnel favorable à l?innovation sociale et à l?implantation de projets
urbains guidés par la philosophie des « communs ».
In this roundtable discussion, Margaux Ruellan (University of Montreal) and Jonathan
Durand Folco (Saint Paul University) test the hypothesis that participatory municipal
democracy is an essential instrument for the transition to a post-capitalist society
focused on the commons. Cities would not only be environments, but also just and
effective means to set in motion such a social transformation. Participatory municipal
democracy would be an institutional context favorable to social innovation and the
implementation of urban projects guided by the "commons" philosophy.

Psycho est assurément un film pionnier dans le genre du suspense. Nous
proposerons ici une analyse esthétique du ressort du suspense tel qu'il est décrit
par Hitchcock lui-même, en le faisant remonter aux débats sur l'émotion théâtrale
du 18e siècle. Cela nous servira de point de départ pour discuter de notions
centrales de l'esthétique en lien avec la philosophie morale, comme l'identification,
la sympathie, l'asymétrie épistémique, etc.
Psycho is undoubtedly a groundbreaking film in the thriller genre. I will propose an
aesthetic analysis of the workings of suspense as described by Hitchcock himself by
tracing the concept back to debates on the theatrical emotions in the 18th century.
This will serve as the starting point for a discussion of certain central aesthetical
concepts in relation to moral philosophy, such as identity, sympathy, epistemic
asymmetry, etc.

                        Reflections on the Aesthetics of Violence
 Violence has long been a factor in human life and has been widely depicted in the arts.
 This essay explores how the artistic and appreciative responses to violence have been
 practiced, understood, and valued. It emphasizes the difference between the aesthetics of
 distant, disinterested appreciation and the engaged appreciative experience of violence in
 the arts, and insists on the relevance of their behavioral and ethical implications.
