CONSERVE FOR TOMORROW TRAINING A GIANT Simply put, a fjord is defined as such: A glacial valley flooded by the sea. An actual tear in the Canadian Shield, this formation began millions of years ago with the collapse of bedrock between two faults. This was followed by ice ages that hollowed out the valley and rounded the landscape. Then, salty, cold and heavy water infiltrated under the brackish water level. This dynamic of the fjord’s water creates two super- imposed habitats: brackish surface water species and deep marine species.
