2019 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and
France. Lingnan Culture Academy of Lingnan Normal University presents “The Second International
Conference on Guangzhouwan’s History and Culture”. It is to be held in December 2019, Zhanjiang,
Guangdong, China.
Our Academy commits itself to the establishment of an academic platform which gathers scholars
nationwide and abroad. The first international conference on “Guangzhouwan’s History and Culture”
was held in December 2016, and more and more attention on Guangzhouwan (Kwang Chow Wan) has
been received. Being the sole French leased territory (politically attached to French Indochina) in
modern China, Guangzhouwan was also a treaty port and continues to serve as a major
transportation hub in southwest Guangdong. It is in light of the increasing awareness of the
importance of Guangzhouwan, the second conference now calls for paper submission.
This conference invites submissions engaged in following topics:
History of the leased territory of Guangzhouwan
Collection and Archiving of historical materials on Guangzhouwan in either Chinese or foreign
language
Connections between Guangzhouwan and Vietnam/ Hong Kong/ Macau/ Canton
Comparison with other leased territories and French concessions in China
French colonial expansion and governance in East Asia
Conservation and inheritance on cultural heritages of Guangzhouwan

Submission guidelines:
Scholars, researchers and postgraduate students from all disciplines are welcome to submit
proposals. Papers may be delivered in Chinese, English or French. Paper proposals should include a
300-word summary, as well as the title of the paper, presenter’s name, institutional affiliation, e-mail
address, phone number, and a brief C.V. (1 to 2 pages). Proposals should be submitted via email
before March 30th, 2019 to gzw2019@126.com. The accepted applicants will be notified. The
deadline for the submission of full papers is September 30th, 2019.
Remarks:
No registration fee. Board and lodging will be arranged by the organizer. Participants may
apply for sponsor for international travel which will be considered individually.
Citations should follow the Chicago Manual of Style.
Rights on papers’ publication are reserved by the organizer. (For authors who have concerns
over copyright, please contact the Academy for further discussion and arrangement.)

20 April 2019: Decision on paper acceptance
30 September 2019: Deadline for submissions of full paper

La deuxième conférence internationale
de l’histoire et la culture de Guangzhouwan
Appel à Communication
L'année 2019 marque le 55e anniversaire de l'établissement des relations
diplomatiques entre la Chine et la France. L’Académie de la culture Lingnan de
l’Université normale de Lingnan présente «La deuxième conférence internationale
sur l’histoire et la culture de Guangzhouwan». Il se tiendra en décembre 2019 à
Zhanjiang, Guangdong, en Chine.
Notre Académie s’engage à mettre en place une plateforme académique regroupant
des chercheurs chinois et internationaux. À la suite de la première conférence
internationale de «L’histoire et la culture de Guangzhouwan» qui s’est tenue en
décembre 2016, les études de Guangzhouwan retenaient l’attention des chercheurs
du monde entier. En tant que seul territoire à bail français (politiquement lié à
l'Indochine française) en Chine, Guangzhouwan (également orthographié Kouang-
Tchéou-Wan) était aussi un port de traité et il sert aujourd’hui comme port principal
dans le sud-ouest du Guangdong. En même temps, l’histoire et la culture de
Guangzhouwan restent encore méconnues. Cela nous pousse à organiser cette
deuxième rencontre.
Nous accueillerons des communications portant sur les axes suivants :
1. Histoire du territoire à bail de Guangzhouwan
2. Collecte et analyse de documents historiques (en chinois ou en langue
étrangère) de Guangzhouwan
3. Liens historiques entre Guangzhouwan et le Vietnam / Hong Kong / Macao /
Canton
4. Études comparatives entre Guangzhouwan et les autres concessions
étrangères en Chine
5. Expansion coloniale française et gouvernance en Extrême–Orient

6. Protection et transmission du patrimoine culturel moderne de Guangzhouwan
Modalités de soumission :
Cet appel à communication s’adresse aux chercheurs, enseignants-chercheurs,
doctorants et étudiants de toutes disciplines qui s’intéressent à l’étude de l’histoire
et la culture de Guangzhouwan. La conférence sera trilingue. Les articles en chinois,
anglais ou français seront acceptés. Une proposition de communication doit inclure
un titre, le nom complet et l’affiliation de l’auteur (ou des auteurs le cas échéant),
l’adresse électronique, le numéro de téléphone et un résumé (maximum 300 mots),
ainsi que un CV court (maximum 2 pages). Les propositions sont à envoyer au plus
tard le 30 mars 2019 à l’adresse mail : gzw2019@126.com.
À noter:
- Pas de frais d'inscription. Les frais de logement et repas seront pris en charge par
l'organisateur. Il est à noter que les frais de déplacement ne seront pas pris en
charge, cependant, un nombre limité des allocations spéciales peuvent être
envisagées en cas de besoin. Veuillez contacter l’organisateur.
- Les références bibliographiques doivent être présentées sous le modèle du
Chicago-Style Citation.
- Une publication des actes de la conférence sera réalisée sous format papier. Si
