Il reste une matrice solide caractérisée par des micropores à très faible conductivité thermique. V.I.P. (Vacum Insulated Panel) Ce sont des panneaux sous vide (Vacum Insulated Panels). Le vide est connu depuis longtemps, il suffit de penser aux vases de Dewar. Inventés en 1892 et entrés sur le marché en 1904. La difficulté est de transférer ces propriétés à des matériaux « structuraux », c'est-à-dire capables de résister à des contraintes mécaniques similaires à celles auxquelles sont soumises les mousses actuellement utilisées. The challenges of urbanization
Rapid urbanization is an issue when moving people and
goods are concerned. 400 km of mass transit systems
in construction in Bangkok today. No such program for
goods.
Main issue is how to limit the number of vehicles in
operation, in areas where large vehicles can not go or
park. Intermediate urban storage ?
Electric vehicles are a priority. Not yet totally suitable
for the required tasks, but coming soon.

The COVID effect
Extremely rapid develpoment of home delivery, mainly
by motorcycle today for prepared food, and pick-up
trucks for the rest.
Still distrust for the integrity of the cold chain when
buying fresh or frozen products on-line, and reluctance
by distributors to operate small multitemp units.
Concern by authorities about the actual capability of
the cold chain infrastructure, as no homologation or
control mechanism in place.

B. Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Technology of Ukraine
developed a cryogenic refrigeration system for transportation in the 70s.
The system developed used gaseous nitrogen
in a similar way to what BOC gases did in the UK.
Change of state occured in piping and then released as gaseous N2.
The ecoFridge system used liquid N2 (LIN) in an innovative way which
cooled in significantly less time and more uniformily.
Droplets of LIN were released through showerheads and instantaneously changed
state in the cooled volume.
The reduced time was critical for:
Certification by the ATP process.
LIN release at a rate of 30-35l per hour vs 40-50l per hour for older concept.
Temperature recovery during multiple stop unloading/reloading of refrigerated
produce; assuring maintenance of the cold chain in high ambient temperatures.

The ecoFridge LIN system was totally different from the
classic mechanical systems. No C; virtually no noise
Cemafroid and Ukram worked jointly on a new set of
procedures which would still meet the ATP performance
requirements. Proof ATP is adaptable.
The ecoFridge system was tested in the Bordeaux ATP
facility.
The system tested was installed in a European reefer which was
produced to ATP specifications; specifically wall and floor insulation
and age.
The building structure did not allow direct fill of our 650l storage
tank. The test was constrained to a 350l fill. A major handicap since
we needed a 24-hour continual operation.

The criteria for certification was a continual 12 hour operation at -200C
with a cool down from +300C. Inside the truck was a heater which
outputted 1.5kW. Ambient temperature maintained at +300C. The
conservative simulated heat effect of a typical load of product.
We were constrained to use of only 350l. We used 338l and prayed.
System worked for 12hr + 5 minutes.

While prototyping ecoFridge in the US we installed
several units on trailers of major produce companies.
One gave us 3 new trailers with excellent insulation
One gave us 2 trailers in satisfactory condition; 1 trailer in poor
but functional condition
The third company gave us 3 very old trailers.
Each of the trailers came off the normal operational
system. The very old trailers had water soaked walls.
Impossible to transport frozen goods adequately but
they had been used regardless.
Obviously ATP certification would have caused rejection
of at least 4 of the 9 systems.
Journées Techniques Internationales Tecnea - Cemafroid – 24 & 25 Juin 2021І Why ATP Globally In all of trailers which could not be certified it was actually unsafe to carry frozen foods. In-store spoilage was high and frozen ice cream was melted by the 3rd of 5 stops . In addition mechanical systems never cycled, operated continually. More C; more contaminants in the atmosphere as well. We found similar situations in S. Africa, Israel and India. ATP certification does not have to be as stringent as it is in Europe but it will assure only functional reefers will be on the road. The user even with a standard mechanical system saves money because of spoilage, reduced fuel consumption and the reefer manufacturer will have larger turnover. The customer gets better product. І What must be considered
ATP must be accepted by reefer manufacturing
industry; reefer end users, and government
In order to obtain acceptance the following must be
considered:
Wall insulation criteria must be consistent with present in-
country reefer producer new reefer insulation and in-country
government criteria.
Refrigeration manufacturers should be able to meet EU
standards
Lifetime reduction in insulation values must be assessed and
minimum must be stated
Used reefers must meet a standard prior to transfer of title,
similar to auto resale
