Welcome to our Summer University!
For forty-two years Aix-en-Provence, with the Summer University, has been the “rendez-vous” of
outstanding faculty and participants coming from around the globe - all sharing a strong interest
for classical liberal ideas. Since 1989 IES-Europe has been part of this gathering, supporting
students and young scholars in their intellectual journey.
2019 is a special year for IES-Europe as we celebrate 30 years of existence, 30 years of spreading
the ideas of liberty to young minds all over the Europe! And obviously, we also celebrate the fall of
the Berlin Wall. We want this year's Summer University to bring together liberty lovers from all
over the world, especially IES alumni and friends, but also people who want to become a part of this
amazing network.
Distinguished speakers from the fields of economics, philosophy, history, and law will join us in the
sunny and informal (and musical!) atmosphere of Aix. We hope you will enjoy the event.

Thursday, August 22 – Jeudi 22 Août This program run by ALEPS will be entirely in French and centered exclusively on the economic, social and political challenges facing France. It would be the opportunity to meet and discuss with authors who will present their most recent books on those issues. In the morning it will deal with the two conflicting visions on Europe and subsidiairity and democracy. In the afternoon it will offer a special session on the re-emergence of French liberalism with journalists. Ce programme organisé par ALEPS est entièrement en français et a pour objet d’explorer les défis sociaux, économiques et politiques de l’hexagone. Le jeudi après-midi sera dédié à la recomposition du libéralisme en France. Les auteurs d’ouvrages récents sur ces thèmes présenteront leurs travaux (Fred Aftalion, Bertrand Lemmenicier, Philippe Némo, Henri Lepage, Jacques Garello, Pascal Salin, Gérard Bramoullé, Baudoin Bouckaert, Angelo Petroni, Jean-Philippe Feldman…) .
