Profil
La chaire AIDAL propose un contrat “tenure-track” avec l’objectif de devenir professeur ou
professeure d’informatique (Section 27).

Le ou la titulaire de la chaire aura pour responsabilité de (i) conduire une recherche
d’excellence, (ii) élaborer et soumettre des projets de recherche en étroite collaboration avec
les centres de recherche en droit de UT Capitole et (iii) animer un groupe de recherche
thématique autour de l’utilisation de techniques d’intelligence artificielle dans la recherche en
droit. «AI and Law». Une expérience postdoctorale démontrant sa capacité à assumer ces
responsabilités est attendue.

Recherche. Le parcours scientifique et le projet de recherche des candidats devront montrer
une expertise dans le domaine de l’intelligence artificielle, avec publications dans des
conférences internationales et dans des revues de ce domaine. Une expertise dans
l’application des techniques d’IA à la recherche en droit sera appréciée mais n’est pas
nécessaire. Un projet de recherche détaillé autour de la thématique de la chaire devra
accompagner la candidature, avec un horizon à 6 ans (comprenant l’utilisation du financement
de l’ANR) et des perspectives pour l'éventuelle titularisation.

Enseignement. La personne titulaire de la chaire sera amenée à proposer en priorité des
nouveaux cours autour de l’utilisation des techniques d’IA dans la recherche en droit, de
préférence à niveau master ou dans des écoles d’été pour étudiant de master et doctorants.
Le master en “Droit du Numérique”1 peut accueillir de tels cours, ainsi que la graduate school
ANITI.2 Depuis plusieurs années, la faculté d’informatique développe son offre de formations
à l’international3 et s’investit dans l’innovation pédagogique. La personne recrutée sera
encouragée à s’inscrire dans cette ligne de développement. La personne titulaire pourra être

amenée à s’investir dans des cours de gestion de données, analytique, systèmes
d’information enseignés à la faculté d’informatique.

Charges collectives. La ou le professeur junior recruté(e) participera à l’animation de la
pédagogie et de la recherche, notamment en assurant la responsabilité de cours et de
formations (après titularisation), animation d'équipes pédagogiques, et en contribuant à
l’animation de la recherche (séminaires, organisations de conférences, responsabilité
d’équipe…) ainsi qu’au développement de collaborations nationales et internationales.

Description du poste
La chaire démarrera avec un contrat de 6 ans, avec rémunération annuelle brute minimale de
41 331 euros4. Un contrat de recherche sera établi entre la ou le professeur junior et
l’établissement, comprenant des objectifs pour pouvoir être titularisé. L’évaluation de
titularisation se tiendra après 3 ans, et en cas d’issue négative une autre évaluation sera faite
à la fin du contrat (après 6 ans).

La charge d’enseignement de la chaire est de 64 heures de cours équivalent TD par an
pendant la durée de la tenure-track (3 ou 6 ans), et de 192 heures de cours équivalent TD
une fois titularisé. Les enseignements seront dispensés à l’Université Toulouse 1 Capitole.
Les enseignements s'effectueront notamment en licence MIASHS et Master MIAGE5 ainsi que
dans les formations en Economie, Gestion et Droit.

Afin de mener à bien son projet scientifique, cette chaire est complétée par un financement
de l’Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) pour supporter le salaire d’un doctorant
(100k€), un post-doctorant (60k€), et des fonds pour missions (40k€).

Laboratoire d'accueil et accompagnement
La chaire de professeur junior AIDAL se situe dans le cadre du renforcement du laboratoire
IRIT6 à l’Université Toulouse 1 Capitole (UT Capitole)7. Cette chaire a pour but de concrétiser
la volonté de l’IRIT de développer des collaborations avec les centres de recherche en droit
présents à UT Capitole ainsi qu’avec l’institut ANITI (notamment la chaire “Law, Accountability,
and Social Trust in AI”8). La chaire s’inscrit aussi dans la collaboration existante entre l’IRIT et
le groupe “legal informatics” de l’Université de Bologna en Italie (cf. projet LEXIA9). La
personne recrutée intégrera le Département Intelligence Artificielle de l’IRIT représenté par
les équipes ADRIA10 et LILaC11 à UT Capitole.

Dossier de candidature
Le dossier de candidature devra contenir : un CV, un rapport d’activités (enseignement,
recherche, charges collectives) depuis l’inscription en doctorat (env. 5 pages), un projet de
recherche détaillant le travail de la CPJ et du personnel associé (env. 3 pages), au moins
deux lettres de recommandation (ou au minimum les contacts) de personnes extérieures au
laboratoire d’accueil, une lettre de soutien d’une de deux équipes d’accueil.

Les candidatures se feront sur le portail Galaxie. Calendrier indicatif : ouverture du dépôt des
candidatures en septembre 2023, deadline pour les candidatures fin septembre 2023,
auditions octobre/novembre, pour prise de fonction en janvier 2024.

Job profile
The AIDAL chair offers a “tenure-track” contract with the objective of becoming full professor
in computer science (Section 27).
The chair holder will be responsible for (i) conducting excellent research, (ii) developing and
submitting research projects in close collaboration with UT Capitole's law research centers
and (iii) leading a research group around the use of artificial intelligence techniques in legal
research (AI and law).
Research. Applicants must have extensive research experience in the field of artificial
intelligence, backed with publications in international conferences and in journals in this field.
Expertise in applying AI techniques to legal research will be appreciated but is not required. A
detailed research project around the topic of the chair must be submitted with the application,
with a 6-year horizon detailing the work of the chair and of the research group.

Teaching. The chair holder will be required to offer new courses on the use of AI techniques
in legal research, preferably at master's level or in summer schools for master's and doctoral
students. The master's degree in "Droit du Numérique"3 can accommodate such courses, as
well as the ANITI graduate school. The Faculty of Information Technology at UT Capitole is
committed to innovation in its educational activities and developed an international offer,4 to
which successful candidates will be expected to contribute. The chair holder will also be
involved in courses in data management, analytics, information systems taught at the Faculty
of IT.
Service to the profession. The junior professor will participate in the management of
education and research, in particular by taking responsibility for courses, master programmes
(after tenure), pedagogical innovations, and by contributing to the organisation of research
activities (seminars, conferences, etc.) as well as to the development of international research
collaborations.

Job Description
The chair holder will start with a 6-year contract, with a minimum gross annual salary of 41,331
euros.5 An additional contract will be drawn up between the junior professor and the university,
detailing the objectives to be granted tenure. The tenure assessment will be held after 3 years,
and in the event of a negative outcome another assessment will be made at the end of the
contract (after 6 years).
The teaching load of the chair is 64 frontal hours per year, for the duration of the tenure-track
(3 or 6 years), and 192 frontal hours once tenured. The teaching load is expressed in exercise
sessions, to get a rough idea it corresponds to 1 course per semester. Classes will be given
at the University of Toulouse 1 Capitole, mostly in MIASHS bachelor and MIAGE Master
programmes,6 as well as in programmes in Economics, Management and Law.
Research funding. In order to carry out its scientific project, this chair is supplemented by
funding from the National Research Agency (ANR) to support the salary of a doctoral student
(100k€), a post-doctoral student (60k€), and funds for missions (40k€).

Host institution
The AIDAL junior professor chair contributes to the strategy of the IRIT laboratory at the
University of Toulouse 1 Capitole. The purpose of this chair is to foster collaborations between
IRIT and the law research centers present at UT Capitole, as well as with the ANITI institute
(in particular the chair “Law, Accountability, and Social Trust in AI” ).7 The chair also stems

from the existing collaboration between IRIT and the “legal informatics” group of the University
of Bologna in Italy (cf. LEXIA project).8
The chair holder will join the Artificial Intelligence Department of IRIT represented by the
ADRIA9 and LILaC10 teams at UT Capitole.
