Ms. Andrew — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should amend the Hairstyling Program Standard to mandate culturally-responsive training specific to Black and textured hair, and embed this within the Guidelines for the Film and Television Industry with specific timelines for its full implementation, to promote health and safety in Ontario’s film, television and theatre sectors for all performers, create Ontario jobs and build capacity in the province. Mr. Schreiner — That, in the opinion of this House, a Select Committee should be established to develop a comprehensive plan to reform and strengthen the public appointment process in Ontario; and That the Committee should be comprised of representatives from the Government, Official Opposition, and Independent members, with no party holding a majority; and That, in developing its plan and recommendations, the Committee should consider: including merit-based criteria; standardizing transparency measures; making the results of Integrity Commissioner investigations public when appropriate; adding a public complaints and investigation process; and establishing goals to ensure diversity and gender parity in the selection process; and That the Committee should present a report on its findings to the House no later than one year from its inception. Ms. Shaw — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should launch a transparent and public review of the Permit To Take Water process, particularly for bottled water operations, to ensure permitting provides for long-term stability, public use, and good watershed management. Ms. Shaw — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should base all decisions about water on our treaty obligations, public interest, and guaranteed access to sustainable water resources for future generations, and should collaborate with Indigenous people, farmers, rural Ontarians, and conservation authorities in developing a Provincial Water Strategy to protect our water, create jobs, and take essential action on the climate crisis. Mr. Schreiner — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario must impose an immediate moratorium on all new gravel mining approvals in Ontario, including interim orders and site plan amendments for mining below the water table or that increase licensed tonnages until it undertakes a broad consultation process that includes Indigenous nations, affected communities, independent experts and scientists to chart a new path forward. Mr. Schreiner — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should immediately begin treating the drug poisoning crisis as a health issue, not a criminal issue, that requires a comprehensive public health response that includes working with the federal government to decriminalize drug possession, shifting funding from the justice system to the healthcare system, creating health- focused crisis response teams to respond to drug poisonings, and increasing investments in flexible treatment options and harm reduction programs, including safe supply. Ms. Andrew — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should create a provincial food strategy that includes affirmation of access to food, inclusive of fresh fruits and vegetables, as a human right and culturally and regionally addresses marginal, moderate and severe food insecurity for all Ontarians, including seniors, ODSP/OW recipients, BIPOC, artist and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, fixed or low-income households, sole-parent families, persons with disabilities, injured workers and others disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the social determinants of health in general.
