YOLANDA BANKS

Yolanda Banks is the Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Advisor at Export
Development Canada (EDC). Her primary responsibilities include management of stake
holder relations with non-governmental organizations(NGOs) as well as coordination of
and championing Corporate Social Responsibility practices within the corporation. She
serves on the Management Advisory Board of the Canadian Business Ethics Research
Network (CBERN), and was previously a member of Canada’s delegation to the
International Standards Organization (ISO) Working Group on Social Responsibility.

Before joining EDC in August 2001, Ms. Banks enjoyed a career in international
development, working for the Canadian International Development Agency(CIDA). Her
assignments included Latin America, the Caribbean and Cameroon. Prior to that, she
served as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and
International Trade Canada. Her career has been international in scope and includes
nine years abroad on postings in London (UK), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Addis
Ababa(Ethiopia) with cross-accreditation to Myanmar (then Burma) and Sudan.

Ms. Banks holds a Master of Arts in International Affairs from Carleton University, and a
MBA from the University of British Columbia.

PIERRE BRUN

Pierre Brun completed his legal studies at the Université Laval and holds a Masters
degree from the Université de Montréal on the charters and environmental law. Having
today a vast experience in labour and administrative law, he continues to be specialized
in the field of human rights and fundamental freedoms and, more particularly, in issues
regarding freedom of association and the right to equality.

Co-founder of Lawyers Without Borders Canada, Mr. Brun participated in numerous
missions in Africa and is a member of its board of directors. He is also a member of the
board of directors of ProBono Québec, a newly created organization whose objective is
to facilitate access to justice in Québec with the assistance of the Bar.

Mr. Brun has been co-author for many years of Alter Ego on the Charters of human
rights, published annually by Wilson & Lafleur, and he also published various articles and
often takes on the role of lecturer in conferences on these topics.

BONNIE CAMPBELL

Bonnie Campbell (MA., DPhil, University of Sussex), is a professor of political economy at
the Department of Political Science at the University of Quebec in Montreal where she is
Director of the Centre interdisciplinaire de recherche en développement international et
société (CIRDIS) and also the Director of the Research Group on Mining Activities in
Africa (Groupe de recherche sur les activités minières en Afrique). She was a member of
the Advisory Group named by the federal government for the National Roundtables on
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Canadian Extractive Sector in Developing
Countries (2006-2007) and from 2007 to 2011 was a member of the International Study
Group on Africa’s Mineral Regimes of the United Nations Economic Commission for
Africa (UNECA). Professor Campbell has written extensively on issues related to
international development, development assistance, governance and mining and is the
author of many journal articles, and author, editor or co-editor of thirteen volumes
including, Restructuring in Global Aluminium, with Magnus Ericsson (Eds.), London,
Mining Journal Books Ltd, 1996, Regulating Mining in Africa: For whose Benefit?

CHRISTOPHER CAMPBELL-DURUFLÉ

Christopher Campbell-Duruflé est membre du Barreau du Québec depuis 2010 et
détient un diplôme en droit de l'Université McGill. Il est présentement étudiant au
programme de maîtrise en droit international des droits humains à l'Université Notre-
Dame, Indiana, et fut avocat-recherchiste à la Cour d’appel du Québec auprès de
l’ancien juge en chef du Québec, l’honorable J.J. Michel Robert.

L'intérêt de Me Campbell-Duruflé pour les droits humains, et plus particulièrement pour
le droit des peuples autochtones, remonte à loin. Il a été stagiaire au Centro de derechos
humanos Tepeyac del Istmo de Tehuantepec, au Mexique, et au Centre pour la justice et
le droit international (CEJIL), au Costa Rica. Il a également été assistant juridique
chez Hutchins Legal, un cabinet d’avocat spécialisé dans la défense des droits des
peuples autochtones au Canada, et avocat pour la Clinique internationale de défense des
droits humains de l’UQÀM (CIDDHU) au procès Massacre de Guayubin c. République
dominicaine tenu à la Cour interaméricaine des droits de l'Homme en juin 2012.

De février à juillet 2012, Me Campbell-Duruflé fut coopérant volontaire au bureau
d'ASFC en Colombie et responsable du projet Accès à la justice des communautés
autochtones et autres victimes du conflit.

ANAÏS DESJARDINS-CHARBONNEAU

Anaïs Desjardins-Charbonneau et Audrey MacKay ont participé à la Clinique
internationale de défense des droits humains de l'UQAM durant l'année académique
2011-2012. Elles ont contribué aux recherches et à la rédaction d'un mémoire juridique
pour l'ONG américaine Due Process of Law Foundation, en vue d'une présentation lors
d'une audience thématique à la Commission interaméricaine des droits de l'homme.
Anaïs Desjardins Charbonneau, détentrice d'un baccalauréat en relations internationales
et droit international de l'UQAM, est actuellement étudiante en maîtrise des affaires
publiques et internationales à l'Université d'Ottawa.

JULIE DUBÉ-GAGNON

Julie Dubé-Gagnon holds an LL.B from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), a
B.A. from McGill University in international development, and is an LL.M candidate as of
August 2010 in International Human Rights Law at Notre Dame Law School, for which
she obtained a full scholarship from the Office of the Provost. At UQAM, she actively
participated in the International Clinic for the Defense of Human Rights (CIDDHU),
where she presented human rights recourses on behalf of indigenous communities from
Central America. She has been working as a student-at-law at the Montreal offices of
Heenan Blaikie LLP since the summer of 2008. During the summer of 2010, she was sent
to Guatemala by Lawyers Without Borders to work with representatives of civil society
to strategically litigate human rights cases. Julie worked at the Guatemalan Human
Rights Commission in 2005-2006 and clerked in 2007 for Rt Hon. Judge Sir Dennis Byron
and Judge Robert Fremr at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for
Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania. Since 2007, Julie has been a member of the Board of
Directors of OEIL Côte-des-Neiges in Montreal, a tenant’s rights advocacy group which
promotes housing rights and decent living conditions. Before sitting on the Board, she
worked at OEIL as a community worker for three years.

PATRICE FLORVILUS

Patrice Florvilus obtient une maîtrise en Aménagement des quartiers précaires à
l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) en 2009. Il est de 2008 à 2010,

coordonnateur technique du projet Majorar la calidad educativa en America central y
en el Caribe réalisé par le Conséjo de Educacion del Adulto en America latina.

Patrice Florvilus est responsable de l’aide juridique et de l’assistance juridique sur le
programme Haïti d’ASFC depuis décembre 2011.

MARIE-CLAUDE FOURNIER

Marie-Claude Fournier is a lawyer, member of the Québec Bar. During her legal studies
she actively participated in UQÀM's International Clinic for the Defence of Human Rights
for a period of 2 semesters, on cases of grave human rights violations in the Dominican
Republic and Guatemala. This experience led her to pursue an internship in Guatemala,
in order to seek evidence and victims' testimonies to offer before an international
adjudicative body. She also collaborated actively with the Prisoners' Rights Committee
in Canada, before working with defence counsel at the International Criminal Tribunal
For The Former Yugoslavia in the Hague on the Srebrenica case and on the appeal
proceedings for the Vukovar case.

Marie-Claude then worked as lawyer specialized in human rights at the Inter-American
Commission on Human Rights, part of the Organization for American States, in
Washington DC. She worked on cases involving various Caribbean countries as well as
the US, principally on questions of access to justice, arbitrary detention, due process,
independence and professionalization of judicial institutions, as well as on
discrimination issues. Afterwards, Marie-Claude completed her masters in laws (LL.M) in
International Law of Human Rights and Criminal Justice at the University of Utrecht in
the Netherlands, where she is drafting her thesis on the defence of duress in
international criminal law and received her diploma with honours.

IOANA LUCA

Ioana Luca est avocate au bureau de Gowlings à Calgary, œuvrant au sein du groupe
Financement des entreprises, fusions et acquisitions. Sa pratique est axée sur les
transactions commerciales, notamment dans l'industrie pétrolière, aux opérations
afférentes aux valeurs mobilières et aux questions de responsabilité sociale et de lutte
contre la corruption dans les opérations des entreprises canadiennes à l'étranger. Avant
de se joindre à Gowlings, Me Luca travaillait au sein d’une société de gestion mondiale
d’actifs en tant que juriste d'entreprise et déontologue.

Me Luca a lancé l’initiative d’action bénévole de Gowlings auprès d’Avocats sans
frontières Canada. Dans le cadre de cet engagement, elle a participé à une mission
d’enquête en Colombie, rédigé des plaidoiries visant des affaires emblématiques du

Guatemala, et formé des avocats canadiens et étrangers sur la rédaction de pétitions
destinées aux organes du Système interaméricain des droits de la personne. Elle
continue de jouer un rôle actif dans le développement des projets futurs.

AUDREY MACKAY

JEAN-MICHEL MARCOUX

Jean-Michel Marcoux est présentement professionnel de recherche à la Faculté des
sciences de l’agriculture et de l’alimentation de l’Université Laval. Il est diplômé de la
maîtrise interdisciplinaire en études internationales de l’Institut québécois des hautes
études internationales (Université Laval) et détient un baccalauréat intégré en affaires
publiques et relations internationales (Université Laval). Son essai de maîtrise porte sur
la responsabilisation des sociétés minières canadiennes dans les Amériques et il a
réalisé un stage en tant que spécialiste junior en commerce international chez
Management Dynamics Inc. (Washington, DC, États-Unis). Cette communication
reprend certains éléments d’un article récemment publié dans la Revue québécoise de
droit international.

FRANÇOIS MELOCHE

François Meloche is Extra Financial Risk Manager for Bâtirente, a pension fund system
servicing members of unions affiliated to the CSN labour organization, in Quebec,
Canada. Mr. Meloche has over a decade of experience in the responsible investment
community having worked for Sustainalytics, the Interfaith Center on Corporate
Responsibility (ICCR) and Groupe investissement responsable inc. He is also co-founder
of Equiterre, an organization advocating responsible consumption and was a youth
delegate with the Canadian government at the Earth Summit in 1992.

GHISLAIN OTIS

Spécialiste du droit des autochtones, du droit constitutionnel et des droits de la
personne; le professeur Ghislain Otis détient un doctorat de l’Université de Cambridge
(prix de thèse Yorke). Le professeur Otis est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du
Canada sur la diversité juridique et les peuples autochtones . Pendant l’année scolaire
2008-2009, le professeur Otis était associé au Center for North American Studies de la
American University à Washington à titre de Senior Fellow et de titulaire d’une Chaire de
recherche Fulbright. Les travaux de la Chaire ont porté sur la gouvernance autochtone
non territoriale et le pluralisme juridique (Non-Territorial Indigenous Governance and
Legal Pluralism in Canada and the United States).

PASCAL PARADIS

Pascal Paradis is one of the three founding members of LWBC, where he also acts as
Secretary of the Board of Directors. He has been the Managing Director of the
organization since 2005. He has managed or participated in numerous projects of
international cooperation in Colombia, Haiti, Guatemala, Nigeria, Peru, Chile and
Venezuela.

A graduate of the Law Faculty of the Université Laval in 1993, Paradis was called to the
Québec Bar in 1994. In 1996 he obtained his masters degree in international law from
the London School of Economics and Political Science, with distinction. In 2006, he
participated on a scholarship in the International Law Course of the Organization for
American States in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Before committing himself full-time to the LWBC cause, Pascal practiced commercial
and civil litigation from 1994 to 1999 at Pothier Delisle, then international commercial
law from 1999 to 2004 at McCarthy Tétrault, where he became a partner in 2001. He
worked in various countries in areas such as project finance, privatization, infrastructure
projects and international contracts. Between 1994 and 2001 he also taught drafting
and pleading techniques at the Law Faculty of the Université Laval, as a teaching
assistant. In 1997 the Government of Canada named him a member of the Advisory
Committee on Private Commercial Disputes, created by Article 2022 of the North-
American Free Trade Agreement.

Pascal Paradis led and presented numerous conferences, in French, English and Spanish
in Québec, in the United States, in Latin America and in Africa on international law,
human rights, international arbitration and foreign investment.

CLAUDE PERRAS

Claude Perras, né à Boucherville, au Québec, a plus de 25 ans d’expérience comme
cadre supérieur dans des multinationales et organismes de développement
international.

M. Perras détient une maîtrise en gestion de l’Université McGill à Montréal, un
baccalauréat en sciences sociales, avec double majeure en sciences politiques et
économiques de l’Université d’Ottawa et un diplôme en développement social du Coady
International Institute d’Antigonish, en Nouvelle-Écosse.

En 1993, il est devenu directeur régional du CECI en Asie. En 2000, M. Perras est devenu
directeur général adjoint du CECI. En 2003, M. Perras est devenu directeur du
programme de coopération volontaire Uniterra (CECI- EUMC).

En 2006, M. Perras est devenu directeur des affaires internationales pour le groupe
Bauxite et Alumine (B et A) d'Alcan à Montréal. Il était chargé de l'élaboration et de la
mise en œuvre de la stratégie du groupe en matière de développement durable. Il a
abordé cette question d’un point de vue avant tout social, afin d’assurer des relations
harmonieuses avec les gouvernements et les communautés où B et A était présent.

En 2008, M. Perras s’est joint au groupe Rio Tinto à Montréal, où il a occupé le poste de
directeur de développement durable et relations avec les communautés. À titre de
membre de la pratique mondiale relation avec les communautés, il était responsable
d’appuyer les unités d’affaires sur les dimensions de conformité et les enjeux en matière
de relations avec les communautés.

En 2011, il s’est joint au groupe London Mining comme Vice président développement
durable. Il est responsable de la stratégie et des politiques du groupe en matière de
santé, sécurité environnement, développement durable, y compris des relations avec les
communautés et les parties prenantes.

ÉTIENNE ROY GRÉGOIRE

Etienne Roy Grégoire est titulaire d'une maîtrise en science politique et membre du
Groupe de recherche sur les activités minières en Afrique (GRAMA) du Centre
interdisciplinaire de recherche en développement international et société (CIRDIS) de
l'UQAM. Il travaille depuis plus de dix ans dans le domaine des droits humains,
particulièrement au Guatemala et en Colombie. Son expertise porte sur les enjeux de
justice transitionnelle, défenseurs des droits humains, participation citoyenne et
consolidation de la paix, investissement et commerce en contexte de conflit ou post-
conflit et gouvernance du secteur extractif. Récemment, ses travaux ont traité des
initiatives du gouvernement canadien visant à renforcer la gouvernance du secteur
minier au Pérou et de la régulation du secteur minier dans le Nord du Québec. Il a

également dirigé, en 2009, une recherche portant sur les impacts d'investissements
miniers canadiens en zone de conflit en Colombie et s'intéresse actuellement aux
implications du Traité de libre-échange Canada-Colombie sur la situation des droits
humains dans ce pays.

PHILIPPE TRUDEL

Me Philippe H. Trudel was admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1993. He obtained his
Bachelor of Civil Law (LL.B.) from University of Montreal 1990. He also holds a B.A. in
Political Science from Laval University.

He began his legal career in civil and commercial litigation with the firm of Godin
Raymond Harris & Thomas, which became Hudon Gendron Harris Thomas en 1995. He
founded T&J in 1998 with Bruce Johnston. Together, they have represented their clients
with remarkable success before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Superior Court and
Court of Appeal of Quebec, the Federal Court and many administrative tribunals.

Philippe is a frequent guest speaker including on the subject of class actions.
