TWO NEW EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS CROWNED IN ADRIA: LONGHI IN KZ
AND POLLINI IN KZ2
The FIA Karting event in Adria (ITA) concluded in style with a breathtaking final day in the tradition of
the first two. From the last Qualifying Heats in the morning to the Finals in the afternoon, this Sunday
15th August delivered races of rare intensity punctuated by resounding dramatic twists. The Italians
were in the limelight in the gearbox categories. The Final of the FIA Karting European Championship
- KZ was won by Paolo Ippolito, while the title went to Riccardo Longhi. In the FIA Karting European
Championship - KZ2, Giacomo Pollini won both the Final and the Championship with flying colours.
Poland’s Maciej Gladysz won the Final of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy and took the lead in the
provisional standings.
The heat did not let up at Adria Karting Raceway with temperatures peaking at around 37°. The fighting spirit of the partici-
pants did not waver either and it is no exaggeration to say that the suspense was high until the end of the event. Most of the
favourites were in trouble for various reasons and the winners created a surprise in all three categories.
Advantage Gladysz in Academy
All equipped with identical karts (Exprit/Vortex/MG), the drivers of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy engaged in epic battles
in which the slightest mistake was very costly. Maciej Gladysz (POL) came out on top in the lively Qualifying Heats ahead
of Oleksander Bondarev (UKR), Nikolas Roos (ZAF) and Yevan David (LKA). The Final was much longer and the positions
were stabilised from the sixth lap. Gladysz took the lead over David while Riccardo Ianniello (ITA) soon moved up to second
position and Bondarev remained fourth ahead of David Walther (DNK). These drivers kept their distance without making any
mistakes and crossed the finish line in this order. The provisional ranking of the Trophy underwent important changes. Only
Reno Francot (NLD), 13th in the Final, was still in 2nd place, the other four drivers in the top five were newcomers. In three
weeks time in Kristianstad (SWE), the third and final event promises to be particularly interesting.

KZ2: Pollini takes the win
The domination of Giuseppe Palomba (ITA - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) and Danilo Albanese (ITA - KR/IAME/MG) during
the Qualifying Heats gave them a privileged status at the start of the FIA Karting European Championship - KZ2 Final. Howe-
ver, their duel was cut short by a collision on the second lap. Albanese retired and Palomba was demoted. NGM Motorsport
driver Giacomo Pollini (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG) took advantage of the situation to take first place. He increased his lead

KZ: Ippolito winner, Longhi Champion
Matteo Vigano (ITA - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) was the favourite after finishing the Qualifying Heats of the FIA Karting
European Championship - KZ2 with a third victory. His hopes were quickly dashed in the Final, where he gradually lost
places. Paolo Ippolito (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG) immediately took the lead in front of Pedro Hiltbrand (ESP - Birel ART/
TM Racing/MG). Stan Pex (NLD - KR/TM Racing/MG) was very fast and reached third position with an option on second
place before retiring with five laps to go. Viktor Gustafsson (SWE - Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) took his place on the podium.
Adrien Renaudin (FRA - Sodi/TM Racing/MG) took fourth place ahead of Jérémy Iglesias (FRA - CRG/TM Racing/MG).
Meanwhile, the battle for the title was going on a little further back in the field. Émilien Denner (FRA - Intrepid/TM Racing/
MG) stayed in his starting position of 7th for a long time, while the official Birel ART Racing driver Riccardo Longhi (ITA - Birel
ART/TM Racing/MG) courageously continued his comeback from the heats. Having started 13th, he probably didn’t think
he would be able to take the title. However, he quickly came back to 8th position just behind his rival Denner. He ended up
in 6th position at the finish line, which allowed him to win the European title he had been hoping for for a long time. Andrea
Kimi Antonelli (ITA - KR/IAME/MG), who was the poleman in Qualifying, was not yet at ease in the standing starts against
his experienced rivals, but he showed a strong competitiveness in the race.

C’est une dernière journée à couper le souffle dans la lignée des deux premières qui a conclu en beauté
l’épreuve FIA Karting d’Adria (ITA). Des ultimes manches qualificatives de la matinée jusqu’aux finales
de l’après-midi, ce dimanche 15 août aura livré des courses d’une rare intensité ponctuées de coups de
théâtre retentissants. Les Italiens ont été à l’honneur dans les catégories à boîte de vitesses. La finale
du Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting – KZ a en effet été remportée par Paolo Ippolito tandis que le
titre était décerné à Riccardo Longhi. En ce qui concerne le Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting – KZ2,
Giacomo Pollini s’est imposé avec brio aussi bien lors de la finale qu’au classement du championnat.
Le Polonais Maciej Gladysz s’est imposé au terme de la finale du Trophée Académie FIA Karting tout en
prenant la tête du classement provisoire.
La chaleur n’a pas baissé sur l’Adria Karting Raceway avec des températures culminant autour de 37°. La combativité des
participants n’a pas davantage faibli et ce n’est pas exagéré de dire que le suspense a été important jusqu’au bout de
l’épreuve. La plupart des favoris ont été mis en difficulté pour des raisons diverses et les vainqueurs ont créé la surprise dans
les trois catégories.
Avantage Gladysz en Académie
Tous équipés de karts identiques (Exprit/Vortex/MG), les pilotes du Trophée Académie FIA Karting ont livré des batailles
épiques dans lesquels la moindre erreur coûtait très cher. Maciej Gladysz (POL) sortait en tête des manches qualificatives très
animées devant Oleksander Bondarev (UKR), Nikolas Roos (ZAF) et Yevan David (LKA). Beaucoup plus longue, la finale se
passait différemment avec des positions stabilisées dès le 6e tour. Gladysz prenait l’avantage sur David tandis que Riccardo
Ianniello (ITA) s’insinuait bientôt en 2e position et que Bondarev restait 4e devant David Walther (DNK). Ces pilotes tenaient
la distance sans commettre la moindre faute et franchissaient la ligne d’arrivée dans cet ordre. Le classement provisoire du
Trophée subissait des changements importants. Seul Reno Francot (NLD) 13e de la finale figurait encore en 2e position, les 4
autres du top 5 étant des nouveaux venus. Dans trois semaines à Kristianstad (SWE), la troisième et dernière épreuve promet
d’être particulièrement intéressante.

Pilote du Team NGM Motorsport, Giacomo Pollini (ITA - CRG/TM Racing/MG) en profitait pour s’emparer de la 1re position.
Il ne cessait d’accroître son avance jusqu’à près de 3 secondes sur la ligne d’arrivée, cette victoire lui valant de remporter
également le championnat. En lice pour le titre, Senna Van Walstijn (NLD – Sodi/TM Racing/MG) n’était pas aussi compé-
titif qu’il l’espérait. Il devait se contenter de terminer dans le top 5 et de prendre la 2e position du championnat. Longtemps
second, Paavo Tonteri (FIN - CRG/TM Racing/MG) cédait dans le dernier tour face à Hubert Petit (FRA - Sodi/TM Racing/
MG) et se classait 6e. Lorenzo Travisanutto (ITA – Parolin/TM Racing/MG) terminait fort au 3e rang avec un gain de 10
places devant Arthur Carbonnel (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/MG).

Matteo Vigano (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) faisait figure de favori après avoir terminé les manches qualificatives du
Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting – KZ2 sur une 3e victoire. Il lui a fallu rapidement renoncer à ses espoirs lors de la finale
où il a perdu progressivement des places. Paolo Ippolito (ITA – CRG/TM Racing/MG) s’est tout de suite installé en tête de
la course devant Pedro Hiltbrand (ESP – Birel ART/TM Racing/MG). Stan Pex (NLD – KR/TM Racing/MG) se montrait très
rapide en atteignait la 3e position avec une option sur la 2e place avant de renoncer à 5 tours de l’arrivée. Viktor Gustafsson
(SWE – Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) récupérait ainsi sa place sur le podium. Adrien Renaudin (FRA – Sodi/TM Racing/MG)
se hissait au 4e rang devant Jérémy Iglesias (FRA - CRG/TM Racing/MG). Pendant ce temps, la bataille pour le titre se jouait
un peu plus loin dans le peloton. Émilien Denner (FRA – Intrepid/TM Racing/MG) restait longtemps à sa position de départ,
la 7e, alors que le pilote officiel Birel ART Racing Riccardo Longhi (ITA – Birel ART/TM Racing/MG) poursuivait courageuse-
ment sa remontée entamée dans les manches. Parti 13e, il ne pensait sans doute pas réussir à décrocher le titre. Pourtant, il
revenait rapidement en 8e position juste derrière son rival Denner. Il finissait par atteindre la 6e position sur la ligne d’arrivée
ce qui lui permettait de décrocher le titre européen qu’il espérait depuis longtemps. Poleman des essais qualificatifs, Andrea
Kimi Antonelli (ITA – KR/IAME/MG) n’était pas encore à l’aise dans les départs arrêtés face à ses adversaires expérimentés,
mais il a démontré une forte compétitivité en course.
