Le « Westland Shopping Center », inauguré
en 1972 et historiquement second centre
commercial de la capitale, se retrouve
aujourd’hui implanté en plein quartier mixte.
Hormis une rénovation cosmétique en 2000, le
centre commercial n’avait pas subi de grandes
modifications depuis sa construction; or le
contexte économico-socio-démographique
a fortement évolué depuis, croissance
démographique et économique importante
dans la zone de chalandise concernée
et important développement de l’activité
commerciale en général.
Un projet de redynamisation s’imposait pour
repositionner le Westland dans le contexte
des centres commerciaux bruxellois en
pleine mutation et pour répondre aux enjeux
actuels et futurs en termes fonctionnels,
programmatiques, tant des aménagements
intérieurs qu’extérieurs.

Westland
Brussel (Anderlecht)

Het « Westland Shopping Center », ingehuldigd
in 1972 en historisch gezien het tweede
winkelcentrum van de hoofdstad, bevindt
zich vandaag te midden van een gemengde
wijk. Ondanks een kosmetische renovatie in
2000 onderging het winkelcentrum geen
grote aanpassingen sinds zijn bouw; echter,
de economische, sociale en demografische
context evolueerde sterk sindsdien, met een
belangrijke demografische en economische
groei in de desbetreffende handelszone en
een grote ontwikkeling van de commerciële
activiteit in het algemeen.
Een revitaliseringsproject was nodig om
Westland in de snel veranderende Brusselse
context van winkelcentra te repositioneren
en om te beantwoorden aan de huidige en
toekomstige uitdagingen, zowel op functioneel
en programmatisch vlak, alsook op het vlak van
de interieur- en de buiteninrichting.

Westland Shopping
Center

The «Westland Shopping Center», inaugurated
in 1972 and historically the second largest
shopping center in the capital, is now located
in the middle of a mixed neighborhood. Apart
from a cosmetic renovation in 2000, the
shopping center had not undergone any major
changes since its construction. However, the
economic, social and demographic context
has changed considerably since then, with
significant demographic and economic
growth in the catchment area concerned
and significant development of commercial
activity in general. A revitalization project was
necessary to reposition the Westland in the
context of the Brussels shopping centers in
full mutation and to answer the current and
future stakes in functional, programmatic
terms, as well as for the interior and exterior
arrangements.
