Jiri KOVANDA
Durant la deuxième moitié des années 1970, Jiří Kovanda réalise des performances qui modifient imperceptiblement les usages des rues de Prague. L’artiste use de l’espace public de manière poétique - rappelant certaines actions surréalistes - pour y réaliser de subtils changements. Dans d'autres œuvres, il organise des agencements de divers matériaux modestes - des piles de feuilles, des petites tours de morceaux de sucre placées de façon anodine dans la ville. Lors du vernissage de la Fiac en 2007, Jiří Kovanda glisse des confiseries dans les sacs des visiteurs. Cette incursion se révèle au moment où les visiteurs découvrent, dans le contenu de leurs sacs, les bonbons dont ils ignoraient l’existence. Ce geste secret induit un changement de situation sans qu’il y ait communication entre l’artiste et le visiteur. Le titre Pure and clear, livré en amont, opère un léger décalage avec le geste documenté par une photographie. Avec cette documentation neutre, l’artiste opère une mise à distance entre l’action et les formes de sa matérialisation. J’ai demandé à une femme artiste de participer à une performance avec moi : j’étais assis dos à elle de manière à ne pas la voir pendant qu’elle me photographiait nue est le titre de la performance sans public de Jiří Kovanda réalisée au Plateau pour Nul si découvert. La photographie de l’artiste vu de dos est la seule documentation existante de ce projet. Fondée sur un rapport de confiance réciproque, l’œuvre fonctionne à condition que Jiří Kovanda ne se retourne pas et que la femme se déshabille vraiment. Une fois ce postulat établi, personne - ni l’artiste, ni le public - ne peut véritablement savoir 1. si l’action a véritablement eu lieu. 2. si la femme s’est véritablement dévêtue. 3. si l’artiste ne s’est pas retourné. Ces mystères entretiennent le pouvoir suggestif de l’image et sa force érotique. Extrait du Journal d’exposition Nul si Découvert, 9 juin-7 août 2011
