Les développements rela-
tifs à la République popu-
laire démocratique de
Corée (RPDC) devant
conduire à une dénucléa-
risation complète, véri-
fiable et irréversible de la péninsule coréenne ont également largement focalisé l’attention
de nos interlocuteurs viennois en particulier au sein de l’AIEA et de l’OTICE.
Un autre fait a marqué l’AIEA : la démission subite du Directeur général adjoint de l’AIEA
en charge du département des garanties, M. Tero Varjoranta début mai. Il a été depuis
remplacé par M. Massimo Aparo qui dirigeait le bureau chargé des vérifications dans le
domaine nucléaire en Iran.
En ce qui concerne la promotion de l’utilisation sûre de l’énergie nucléaire par l’Agence,
nous retenons l’organisation par l’AIEA de deux conférences internationales d’envergure :
l’une sur le développement des ressources humaines pour les programmes électronu-
cléaires, fin mai en République de Corée, présidée par M. Yves Bréchet, Haut-
commissaire à l'énergie atomique, l’autre sur les activité liées au minerai d’uranium et au
cycle du combustible, à Vienne fin juin.
Les interactions avec la France dans ce domaine ont été particulièrement fécondes. En
particulier, grâce à plusieurs réunions d’information, coordonnées par le service nucléaire
de cette Représentation permanente à l’intention des interlocuteurs de l’AIEA, des homo-
logues des missions permanentes ainsi que des Français de l’Agence, les entreprises
EDF, ORANO et Framatome ont pu présenter la nouvelle structure de la filière nucléaire
française. A l’occasion du salon ‘World Nuclear Exhibition’ (WNE), le directeur général de
l’AIEA, M. Yukiya Amano a également effectué une visite à Paris au cours de laquelle il a
porté un message positif sur l’avenir de l’électronucléaire et a pu échanger, avec les inter-
locuteurs de haut niveau pertinents, dont l’Administrateur Général du CEA, sur les diffé-
rents sujets d’actualité.
Enfin dans le domaine de la sûreté, nous retenons le déroulement de la sixième réunion
de revue de la Convention commune sur la sûreté de la gestion du combustible usé et la
sûreté de la gestion des déchets radioactifs, qui s’est tenue du 21 au 1er juin et la neu-
vième réunion des autorités compétentes identifiées au titre de la Convention sur la notifi-
cation rapide en cas d'accident nucléaire et de la Convention sur l'assistance en cas d'ac-
cident nucléaire ou de situation d'urgence radiologique, du 18 au 22 juin.

Le CONSEIL DES GOUVERNEURS qui se tient du 10 au
14 septembre sera suivi comme chaque année de la
CONFÉRENCE GÉNÉRALE de l’AIEA , du 17 au 21 sep-
tembre.
Pour les autres événements, leur appartenance aux
différents domaines d’actions de l’AIEA sont indi-
qués comme suit : énergie nucléaire (NE), applica-
tions nucléaires hors énergie nucléaire (NA), sûreté
et sécurité nucléaires (NS).
