Roberta Bondar
Voici Roberta Bondar! Elle est née le 4 décembre 1945 à Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Elle a
commencé ses études postsecondaires avec son baccalauréat en zoologie et en agriculture.
Ensuite, Mme Bondar a obtenu une maîtrise en sciences en pathologies experimental et son
doctorate en neurobiologie. Enfin, elle est devenue un docteur en médecine et un membre au
Collège Royal des Médecins du Canada. Le 22 janvier 1992,
Roberta Bondar est devenue la première Canadienne de voyager dans l’espace lorsqu’elle a volé
à bord de la navette Spatiale Américaine Discovery en 1992. Etant un médecin spécialisée dans
le système nerveux, elle est pionnière dans la recherche en médecine spatiale!
L’objectif de cette mission était de faire des recherches scientifiques et technologiques qui
nécessitent l’environnement de faible gravité de l’espace. Elle a fait quarante expériences dans
l’espace! Après 8 jours, 1 heure, 15 minutes et 129 orbites de la Terre, la navette «Discovery» a
atterri à la base aérienne d’Edwards en Californie le 30 janvier 1992.
Roberta Bondar est sur sa retraite et vit à Sault Ste. Marie, en Ontario. Elle est une présentatrice
professionnelle et publiât la photographie de la nature dans ses temps libres. Il y a 6 écoles
nommées d’après Roberta Bondar. Elle visite volontairement les écoles, et elle son amour de la
science et de la protection de l’environnement par l’art et la photographie. Elle a aussi créé "The
Roberta Bondar Foundation".
Extra:
J’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer Roberta Bondar en août 2003 à Vancouver, en Colombie
Britannique. Elle était aussi gentille qu’intelligente!

Here is Roberta Bondar! She was born Decmber 4th, 1945 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She began her post‐
secondary studies with achieving a Bachelor degree in Zoologie and Agriculture. Next, she received a
Masters in Science degree in Experimental Pathology and her Doctorat in Neurobiology. Finally, she became
a Doctor in Medicine and a Fellow with the Royal Canadian College of Physicians. On 22 January 1992,
Roberta Bondar became the first Canadian woman and second Canadian in space when she flew aboard
the American space shuttle Discovery in 1992. A doctor specializing in the nervous system, she is a pioneer
in space medicine research!
The objective of this mission was to conduct science and technology investigations that require the low
gravity environment of space. She did 40 experiments while in space! After 8 days, 1 hour, 15 minutes and
129 orbits of the earth, the shuttle "Discovery" landed at Edwards Air Force Base in California on January
30, 1992.
Roberta Bondar is currently retired and lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She is a professional presenter
and published nature photography in her spare time. There are 6 schools named after Roberta Bondar. She
is known to visit schools voluntarily, promoting her love of Science and environmental protection through
art and photography. She also established “The Roberta Bondar Foundation”.

I had the pleasure of meeting Roberta Bondar in August 2003 in Vancouver British Columbia. She was as
equally nice, as she was intelligent!
