The shared floors of these two installations are the work of Fabio
Viscogliosi, whose design offers a close-up view of the detail on
the round stage and an overview of a certain reality in the Studiolo.
The wooden floor and the measuring tools remind us of a
workshop. The figure of the donkey, Viscogliosi’s recurring alter
ego, signals a friendly collaboration further evidenced by the
presence of two new paintings.
Based on a simple gesture matching the artist’s economy of
means, the animated film Endless Boogie sets a perfectly ordinary
workshop nail in motion to music by Rodolphe Burger; another
example of spontaneous collaboration arising from Jacques
Julien’s Rome residency.
More formal but just as lively, Flip Flap sparks television memories
of the 1970s and Osvaldo Cavandoli’s personage La Linea, re-
enacted here in an animated sequence featuring a roll by a
round-headed stick figure.
Lastly, in a narrative extension of Flip Flap and the exhibition, the
stick figure settles into the courtyard of the Frac in a balancing act
worthy of a gymnast on his beam: « As if the Flip Flap character
had gone outside to do gymnastics.»
