Installation
KninePal water fountains is easy to set up. Follow the steps to install your fountain properly. ► 1 Choose
a location away from electrical outlets or cords, and have ample space for training. Also avoid placing the
fountain in lower spot, near building foundation, or on the pathway. ►2 Connect the male end of the hose
(or the spigot) into the barbed connector at the rear of the valve body. Make sure the included rubber
o-ring seal is in place and the connection is tight. ►3 Shut off garden faucet and attach the female end of
the hose (or the fitting) to your garden faucet or hose. Make sure the included rubber washer is in place
before making connection. ►4 Turn on the water to test for leakage. If there is leak, double check for the
presence of rubber seals. ► 5 Purge the air from the hose by depressing the pedal until water comes out.
►6 Adjust water pressure to control water stream height. The pressure can be adjusted by turning the fill
valve using a flathead screwdriver. The fill valve (looks like a flathead screw) is located on the brass
valve body between two pedals. Turn the screw clockwise to reduce the height, and turn the screw
counter-clockwise to increase the height. ► 7 Yon may also adjust the water stream height by using the
black control valve on the two way splitter if the fountain is connected through the splitter. ►8 You may
also want to use the included Y-shape hose splitter to branch out for the fountain. Make sure to check
rubber seal is in place and DO NOT overtighten as it could break the connector.
Training ►1 Prepare for training. Have the KninePal fountain properly installed and tested and pick a good time when the weather is warm and your dog is healthy and active. ►2 Start the fountain with low water stream. Most dogs will find slow flow and low water stream easy and safe to drink from. Once your dog is familiar with the fountain you can increase the stream height to add more fun. ►3 Be very patient with your pet. Every dog is different some learns in less than half an hour, some need few days. Try to make the training a fun and enjoyable exercise for both you and your pet. ►4 When first training your pet to use the fountain, it will be easier to learn if you have your dog approach the fountain from the front only. One way to do this is to block access to the fountain from the left, right, and rear sides (Fig 1). Once your dog has learned to drink from the front, you can remove the obstacles. ►5 Have your pet approach the fountain. Push the pedal down with your hand or foot and let your pet start drinking from the fountain(Fig 2). Release the pedal , When your pet tries to drink from the fountain, put his front paw or paws on the pedal . Don't let him drink too much at first. Pull him off and then put him back on the pedal . Do this several times or until your dog is finished drinking(Fig 3). ►6 You may want to limit your dog from drinking from the old water bowl. Instead let your dog drink from the fountain as much as possible even if your have to be the one holding the pedal. For some dogs it may take several days of training, but the training will be rewarding. Tips ►1 To get your pet to want to use the new KninePal fountain, you can pick a time when your dog is thirsty. Try running your dog around the house a few times or have your dog fetch the ball or stick for a few minutes until he becomes thirsty. ►2 Dogs tend to be very thirsty first thing in the morning, so it is a good time to train. ►3 Keep the initial training within 20 minutes and reinforce drinking from the fountain with small dog treats.
