BBMA 2018 - ARCHITECTENWONINGEN
De derde editie van de Brussels Tijdens de interieurrondleidingen geeft niet
Biennale of Modern Architecture, alleen de gids, maar ook de huidige eigenaar
georganiseerd door Korei, Arkadia, (al dan niet één van de kinderen van de
Docomomo en het æ-lab van de Vrije oorspronkelijke architect) uitleg. Heel uniek
Universiteit Brussel, focust op de eigen worden de ontmoetingen met de architecten
woning van de architect in het Brussels die u persoonlijk zullen ontvangen: Lucien-
Gewest uit de periode 1918-1972. Jacques Baucher, Jan Fellemans en Lucien en
Simone Kroll. Tot slot wordt in de woningen
In dit programma vindt u unieke getuigenissen Lenglet, van de Velde en Strebelle ook
van het woonidealisme van het modernisme, aandacht besteed aan de architectuur van de
het brutalisme en de Internationale Stijl. tuin.
De BBMA wil hiermee de voortrekkersrol

The third Brussels Biennale of Modern In this program you will encounter plenty

Interieurrondleidingen
Elke zaterdag van oktober worden 4 à 5 woningen opengesteld met rondleidingen in het
Nederlands, Frans en Engels. Een bezoek duurt ongeveer 75 minuten (45 minuten in de
woningen Scoriels en Besançon).
Tarief per bezoek: 18 euro / 15 euro (-26 jaar)
Elke bezoeker ontvangt eveneens een exemplaar van de publicatie van de Biënnale.
De woningen zijn enkel toegankelijk na inschrijving en de bezoeken starten stipt. Foto’s
nemen in de woningen is niet toegestaan.

Op zondag worden bezoeken georganiseerd in Kanal of CIVA.
Films en lezing
Gratis, maar inschrijven is noodzakelijk.

Visites d’intérieurs
Chaque samedi en octobre, différentes maisons vous ouvrent leurs portes pour des visites
guidées en français, néerlandais et anglais. Une visite dure environ 75 min (45 min dans les
maisons Scoriels et Besançon).

Guided tours
Each Saturday of October different houses will open their doors with guided tours in English,
French and Dutch. A visit usually takes about 75 minutes

Al van bij het begin van de 20ste eeuw was Brussel een toonaangevende stad
wat betreft nieuwe en vernieuwende architectuur. Bij de opkomst van de
ornamentele eenvoud in het interbellum hoorde een onderzoek naar de indeling
van de binnenruimte waarbij ook nieuwe technieken zoals

de lift en deugdelijk sanitair opkwamen. De duplexwoning,
grote bandramen, platte daken en terrassen waren typische
eigenschappen van de modernistische architectuur. Het
zichtbare symbool van het naoorlogs modernisme was
de hoogbouw met een groeiende beheersing van nieuwe
technologieën en geprefabriceerde materialen. Een overvloed
aan optimistische en vrijgevochten kleuren vervolledigde dit
nieuwe denken.
De architectenwoningen die opengesteld worden tijdens deze
Biënnale zijn stuk voor stuk bijzonder en hun beleving wordt
versterkt door het verhaal van de eigenaar (of architect)
dat de rondleiding aanvult. Sommige woningen zijn nog in
handen (van de familie) van de architect. Andere hebben
een nieuwe eigenaar gevonden die op zoek gaat naar de
architecturale kwaliteiten van toen of die de woning plooit
naar de leefwereld van nu.

Maisons d'architecte
Déjà au début du XXe siècle, Bruxelles est une ville de référence. La simplification
ornementale durant la période entre-deux-guerres, s’associe d’une recherche
de redistribution de l’espace intérieur et les nouvelles technologies permettent
l’introduction d’ascenseurs et de sanitaire de qualité.

L’habitation en duplex, les grandes ouvertures de fenêtres, les
toits plats et terrasses caractérisent l’architecture moderniste.
La tour d’immeubles, possible grâce à l’avancement des
nouvelles technologies et à l’apparition des matériaux
préfabriqués, est le symbole phare du modernisme d’après-
guerre. Une riche palette de couleurs optimistes vient
compléter cette nouvelle manière de penser.
Les maisons d’architecte ouvertes durant cette Biennale sont
toutes remarquables et leur découverte est rehaussée par
la présence du propriétaire (ou architecte) qui par son vécu
complète la visite guidée. Certaines maisons sont encore
habitées par (la famille de) l’architecte, d’autres ont trouvé
un nouveau propriétaire. Certains recherchent la qualité
architecturale de l’époque, d’autres l’adaptent aux besoins
d’aujourd’hui.

Architects' houses
Early on, even from the beginning of the 20th century, Brussels was a leading
city when it came to new architectural developments. In the interwar period,
ornamental simplicity and the research on new ground plans ran parallel to the
introduction of new techniques such as lifts and sanitary

facilities. Duplexes, horizontal windows, flat roofs and
terraces were common ingredients in modernist architecture.
High-rise blocks were the new and visible symbol of post-
war modernism when architects started to use brand-new
technologies and prefabricated materials. An abundance of
optimistic colours completed their new way of designing.
The architects’ houses that will be open during this Biennale
are all unique, and each guided tour will end by the owner (or
architect) telling his or her own story. Some of the residences
are still owned by (the family of) the architect, while others
have new owners, of whom some have been searching for the
architectural qualities of the past and others have tried to
transform their interior into a contemporary house.

When an architect designs his own house, he is not solely designing a home
for himself and his family, he also sets himself one of the most challenging
assignments of his career. Not bound by the wishes of clients, the architect
stands for a virtually limitless range of creative ambitions to choose from such as
working with new materials or investing in a renewed architectural vocabulary.

Korei zet al meer dan 20 jaar de Brusselse architectuur, stedenbouw, beeldende kunsten
en mentaliteitsgeschiedenis in de kijker met rondleidingen, wandelingen en unieke
interieurbezoeken. Het gidsenteam van voornamelijk (kunst)historici en architecten neemt je
mee op sleeptouw om de culturele ontwikkelingen van de 18de eeuw tot vandaag te ontdekken.

Arkadia is een vereniging van historici en kunsthistorici die rondleidingen in de stad
organiseert. U kunt kiezen uit verschillende thematische wandelingen zoals muziek, literatuur
en beeldende kunst. Het ontdekken en bevorderen van erfgoed is hun belangrijkste doelstelling.

Docomomo (DOcumentation and COnservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods of the
MOdern MOvement) wil de verdwijning van het moderne architecturale erfgoed tegengaan.
Sinds de oprichting in 1988 door de Nederlandse architecten Hubert-Jan Henket en Wessel de
Jonge, is Docomomo uitgegroeid tot een internationale organisatie voor de conservatie van
architecturaal erfgoed. Ook in België is er een afdeling.

Het æ-lab (architectural engineering lab) is het onderzoekslaboratorium van de vakgroep
Architectonische Ingenieurswetenschappen van de Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Met een focus op
“the use of engineering tools to create architecture” hanteren zij een interdisciplinaire aanpak.
Een van hun onderzoeksprojecten gaat over architectenwoningen in het Brussels Gewest.

Depuis sa fondation en 1988 par Hubert-Jan Henket en Wessel de Jonge, Docomomo est devenu
une organisation internationale pour la conservation du patrimoine architectural. Elle est
également présente en Belgique.

Le æ-lab (architectural engineering lab) est le laboratoire de recherche du département
d’architecture de la Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Ses membres mettent en oeuvre une approche
interdisciplinaire. L’un de leurs projets de recherche porte précisément sur les maisons
d’architecte dans la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale.
