university/college for students with a busy schedule to overcome challenges. These are points that are not taught in classrooms, so
students can graduate not just with a degree, but also with the confidence and mindset to succeed in their career. /

Jhonel Morvan: Systematic Oppression In School Mathematics
Schools, as social systems, may knowingly or unintentionally perpetuate inequities through unchallenged oppressive systems.
Jhonel Morvan, Education Officer from the Ministry of education will focus on mathematics as a subject area in school practices in
which inequities seem to be considered normal. Issues of racism and racialization in the discipline of mathematics are predominantly
lived through the practice of streaming where students are enrolled in courses of different levels of difficulty. Such practice denies
marginalized groups of students the full benefit of rich learning experiences. /

Crickett Wilder works to end sexual violence and oppressions with SACHA - Hamilton's Sexual Assault Centre. Crickett has been

LightBend: Data Streams in Software with Scala
This workshop will explain what streams are and then delve into an interactive programming environment using the Scala
programming language. The Stream data structure in the Scala standard library provides a powerful means of processing data in an
easy to understand and functional manner. Workshop participants will be invited to follow along with instructors as we go through
several basic streaming use cases from a simple integer aggregation algorithm to a more real world example of streaming data
from a Cryptocurrency exchange over the Internet. Workshop participants who are interested in this topic will be invited to work on
a software challenge as homework. Those who successfully complete the challenge will have the opportunity compete for a paid
internship at Lightbend, the company that stewards the development of the Scala programming language that many of the world’s
most popular streaming solutions are built upon. /
