Coronavirus Listener Data: Video Still Rules, While Audio Streams Start to Trickle Back
Week two of the U.S. economic s hutdown shows the bottom continuing to fall out for physical sales,
whi le s treaming’s decline wasn’t as steep. Overall streams were down to 24.32 billion — a 0.5% from
the pri or week’s total of 24.45 bi llion — but that’s still a better outcome than the 3.5% decline the
i ndustry s uffered after March 12. In these days of quarantine, vi deo remains the one true bright s pot.
Vi deo posted another i ncrease this week, up 3.7% to 9.776 billion, from the prior week, when vi deo
rocketed up 6.9% to a total of 9.426 bi llion. Year to date, vi deo streams are up a whopping 28.6% to
63.47 bi llion from the total of 49.35 billion for the same time period in 2019.

Deezer stats find listeners turning to at-home content and voice assistants under
quarantine
Deezer has published listening data about its platform as a udiences react to the latest changes in the
corona virus pandemic. The streaming service revi ewed i ts global listener trends between Ma rch 2 a nd
Ma rch 22. The company saw the disappearance of many commutes reflected i n its peak hours of
a cti vi ty. Normally, i t’s peak weekday listening is a t 7 a m, but with social distancing i n effect, the top
hours are now 9-10 a m. Deezer also found that people a re streaming constantly on weekend
a fternoons, a new trend that a ppears to be a response to s tayi ng home.

La s t week, the U.K.’s Hipgnosis Songs Fund — whose business model is to acquire and manage the
copyri ghts behind hit s ongs — saw its stock price rebound on the London Stock Exchange to a l evel

l a rgest companies, bundled into the S&P 500, fell by more than 25 percent. Yet the performance of
compa nies on public markets isn’t always tied to their underlyi ng strengths and frailties — a nd the
COVID outbreak has caused even further economic chaos i n the past few weeks. So for music companies
tha t a ren’t purely ca talog-focused l ike Hipgnosis, there may be more pain on the horizon than one

How coronavirus is changing podcast listening
The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted our routines and changed how we consume media. Netflix and
YouTube streaming has grown so much that they have to limit bandwidth. Video game l ive-streaming is
wa y up. Spotify music streaming, on the other hand, has gone down. So—how has the pandemic

pa ndemic. Podsights reported downloads staying essentially flat, while Podtrac s howed downloads a nd

Soutien Live Nation Launches $10M Fund to Support Concert Crews Affected by Coronavirus
Li ve Na tion has established a new charitable fund to help s upport concert crews around the world, i t
wa s announced Tuesday (March 31). The Crew Nation fund will provide monetary relief for concert
crew members impacted by the coronavi rus pandemic, which has widely ca nceled concerts, festivals
a nd other live events since i t began s preading across the U.S. and Europe earlier this month.Live Nation
-- the worl d's l argest concert promoter -- has committed $10 mi llion to Crew Nation, s plit between a $5
mi l lion donation directly to the fund and another $5 mi llion to match contributions by a rtists, fans a nd
empl oyees dollar-for-dollar. Crew Nation is powered by Mus ic Forward Foundation, a charitable
nonprofit organization, that will be administering the fund.

conséquences économiques du Covid 19. La production phonographique française est en grande partie
irriguée par des PME et des TPE. Mais ce sontaussi les maillons les plus fragiles de l’écosystème de la

Online Newport Festivals Launch COVID-19 Artist Relief Program
The Newport Fok and Jazz Festivals Foundation has established the Newport Festivals Musician Relief
Fund to provide financial assistance to folk and jazz musicians who are facing financial hardships from
the COVID-19 pandemic. According to a statement from Festival Executive Producer Jay Sweet, aid will
come i n the form of both rapid micro a nd full grants with a focus on a rtists who have previ ously played
a t the Newport Jazz or Folk Festivals, and the Rhode Island community. Applications from other artists
a nd musicians will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
