FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Star Team Announced December 4, 2017 TORONTO (U SPORTS) – U SPORTS announced Monday the roster of the 2017 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Star Team for the upcoming two-game series against Canada’s National Junior Team prospects. The games are set for Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT and Thursday, Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, Ont., home of the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs. The games will mark the culmination of a four-day camp for the U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Stars beginning Dec. 11, while also serving as part of Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship slated for Dec. 26 -Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y. “We’re thrilled to partner with Hockey Canada for what should be two very entertaining hockey games, and a continued partnership between our organizations,” said Graham Brown, President and CEO of U SPORTS. “We all know how excited Canadians get every December about Canada’s National Junior Team. These games will provide great exposure for U SPORTS men’s hockey, and I know our players and coaches are looking forward to shining on a national stage.” It will mark the third straight year Canada’s National Junior Team Prospects have faced off against the U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Stars, all but one of whom have CHL major junior experience, including six returning players from last year’s squad. Brad Peddle, head coach of the StFX X-Men will serve as the team’s bench boss alongside assistant coaches Mark Howell of the Calgary Dinos, Trevor Stienburg from the Saint Mary’s Huskies and Patrick Grandmaître of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. "This is a tremendous event with very high-level competition, and I look forward to coaching the team representing U SPORTS top hockey players across the nation,” said Peddle, who along with Howell was behind the bench as an assistant coach at the 2016 event in Boisbriand, Que. “We have a great assistant coaching staff in place that I am very much looking forward to working with in an effort to provide our student-athletes with an outstanding experience.” Hockey Canada’s National Junior Team has faced U SPORTS competition on a regular basis since 1988.
POUR PUBLICATION IMMÉDIATE U SPORTS Équipe des étoiles du hockey masculin dévoilée 4 decembre 2017 TORONTO (U SPORTS) — U SPORTS a dévoilé lundi l’identité des joueurs qui feront partie de son équipe étoile du hockey masculin de U SPORTS 2017 pour la série de deux matches contre les joueurs potentiels de l’équipe junior nationale du Canada. Ces matches sont prévus pour le mercredi, 13 décembre à 19 h (HE)/16 h (HP) et le jeudi, 14 décembre à 16 h (HE)/13 h (HP) au Centre Meridian à Ste-Catherine, Ont., où évoluent les Ice Dogs de Niagara de la LHO. Les matches couronneront le camp de quatre jours pour l’équipe des étoiles masculines U SPORTS qui s’amorce le 11 décembre tout en servant, en partie, au camp de sélection de l’équipe junior nationale de Hockey Canada en vue du championnat junior mondial de la Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace (IIHF) qui aura lieu à Buffalo, N. Y. du 26 déc. au 5 janv. « Nous sommes ravis de nous associer à Hockey Canada pour ces deux excitants matchs de hockey, et collaboration plus étroite entre nos organisations,» a dit Graham Brown, président- directeur général de U SPORTS. «Nous savons tous à quel point les Canadiens se passionnent pour l’équipe nationale junior à chaque mois de décembre. Ces parties offriront une excellente visibilité au hockey masculin de U SPORTS et je sais que nos joueurs et entraîneurs ont hâte de se faire valoir sur la scène nationale. » Il s’agira de la troisième année consécutive que les espoirs de l’équipe nationale junior du Canada affronteront les étoiles du hockey masculin U SPORTS qui, sauf pour une d’entre eux, ont tous beaucoup d’expérience au niveau junior majeur de la LCH, y compris six des joueurs de l’équipe de l’année dernière. Brad Peddle, entraîneur-chef des X-Men de StFX, agira à titre d’entraîneur-chef, assisté de Mark Howell des Dinos de Calgary, Trevor Stienburg des Huskies de Saint Mary’s et de Patrick Grandmaître des Gee-Gees d’Ottawa. « C’est un événement formidable avec un niveau de compétition très élevé et j’ai bien hâte de diriger l’équipe qui représente les meilleurs joueurs de hockey U SPORTS au pays, » de dire Peddle qui, avec Howell, était derrière le banc comme entraîneur adjoint à l’événement de 2016 à Boisbriand, Qué. « Nos adjoints sont fantastiques ; ce sont des gars avec qui j’ai bien hâte de travailler dans le but de faire vivre à nos étudiants-athlètes une expérience vraiment exceptionnelle. » L’équipe junior nationale de Hockey Canada concourt au sein de U SPORTS, sur une base régulière, depuis 1988.
