                    Cycle 3 – Grades 5 and 6
                      Week of May 4thth, 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

We would like to make all grade 5/6 parents aware that starting the week of May
11th, the work provided to at-home learners will no longer be optional. Monday,
April 27, the government announced the return to school on May 11th. This means
as of May 11th, students at home or in school are expected to complete
learning activities presented by the teaching team. Please stay posted as we will
be in contact with families during this week to discuss our new expectations and
how the last 6 weeks of the school year will function.

English          Hello everyone in Grade 5/6,

                 I hope everyone enjoyed the assignment last week. It feels
                 good sometimes to relax and think about why we like our
                 friends and what makes them special to us. I must say I am
                 very pleased to see how many of you got on Raz Reading .
                 You are doing the Quiz and are each getting better every day.
                 Plus I’m enjoying listening to you read to me. Thank you very
                 much. So this week, read at least 2 books in Raz and complete
                 the Quiz that goes with the book. As well, do this next
                 challenge.

                 Grade 5
                 This week I would like you to read the article A Hero’s Best

           Écriture en français : Envoyez le journal et le travail sur les 2
           colonnes à dschinck@nfsb.qc.ca
           Regarde 5 minutes par la fenêtre. Que vois-tu? Que se passe-
           t-il? Fais une liste en deux colonnes.

                1. Prends les mots de la colonne (Que vois-tu?)
                   Comment pourrais-tu les classer? En ordre
                   alphabétique, par exemple. Ou selon la classe de mots
                   à laquelle ils appartiennent? Ex. Adjectif, nom, verbe,
                   féminin, masculin etc. Peux-tu penser à d’autres
                   façons de les classer?
                2. Dans quelle colonne de mots se trouve la majorité des
                   mots que tu as écrits dans la colonne (Que se passe-t-
                   il?)
                3. Fais un journal (sans l’aide de personne) de 15
                   lignes ou plus sur le sujet suivant :

                4. Que se passe-t-il chez les voisins? Imagine ce que les
                   enfants font. Est-ce que les adultes travaillent? Il y a
                   des animaux? Que font-ils? Décris ce que tu vois.

                5. Le journal est OBLIGATOIRE. Je dois absolument
                   voir ou tu es rendu dans ton écriture. Bon journal.

Lecture en français :
    En allant faire de la lecture sur les sites en ligne, je peux
    suivre ton évolution .
    Donc cette semaine je veux te voir sur Raz-Kids ou
    Lalilo. Pour aller sur Raz-kids en français, tu dois aller
    sur la barre et trouver Reading, ensuite Reading Room
    et tu cliques sur français, ensuite View All. Tu
    trouveras la barre avec A to Z . La partie surlignée est
    ton niveau de lecture. Clique sur une lettre et un livre
    apparaîtra.

    Lalilo est un site bien amusant si tu n’as pas été le voir
    du devrais y aller cette semaine. Pas besoin de tes parents
    pour ce site. Il est plus facile que Raz-Kids.

    Je dois savoir à quel niveau tu es rendu. J’espère que tu
    as lu beaucoup pendant les 6 semaines qui viennent de
    passer car sinon ton niveau de lecture peut facilement
    reculer. Pour passer 5ème année et être à niveau tu dois
    être au niveau 22 pour GB+ et pour 6ème année au niveau
    25. Bonne lecture!

    P.S. Je fais moi-même Lalilo en français et je suis rendue
    avec 9 étoiles mais Chase vient de me dépasser. Oh non!
    Je dois travailler plus fort cette semaine. Hi! Hi ! Qui va
    réussir à dépasser Chase avant moi? Peut-être Sunny,
    Rachel, Talen ou Océane, parce qu’ils suivent de près.

Math       This week’s challenge:

              1. Sign in to IXL and complete the following skills

              • Level G – F.1 What decimal number is illustrated
              • Level G – F.2 Model decimals and fractions
              • Level G – F.4 Place values in decimal numbers

           *Note that our IXL subscription ended last week. Ms.
           Henrico has extended it to the end of the year, however, we
           will not be able to access IXL until Tuesday this week.

           This IXL challenge is suggested for Grade 5 and 6 and it will
           be starred on Sunday evening. Also feel free to try any other
           math skills that you have learned and want to practice.

           No written feedback or email required to confirm your child
           participated on IXL. I will be able to view all the time spent
           and answers your child gives through my IXL account.

Resource   Hello grade 5/6,

           Welcome to May! As you are aware, elementary schools will
           be reopening on May 11th. Attendance is not mandatory but at
           last week’s news conference it was outlined that if your child

is not attending school he or she will be required to work
                  online. Our online weekly challenges will continue to be
                  updated in all subjects and Mr. I and myself will be available
                  for support and weekly check ins. It is important that your
                  child complete this work in a timely manner as this work will
                  be reflected in the upcoming report card.
