Le canal de Bourgogne relie Migennes dans l’Yonne
à Saint-Jean-de-Losne dans la Saône, en franchissant la ligne
de partage des eaux entre l’Atlantique et la Méditerranée.
Il est long de 242 km et comporte 189 écluses, plusieurs ponts
et un tunnel de 3 333 mètres en son point le plus élevé à
Pouilly-en-Auxois. Il parcourt notre territoire sur 65 km
pour 30 écluses de Flogny-la-Chapelle à Aisy-sur-Armançon.
Sa construction a commencé en 1775 et il a été ouvert
à la navigation en décembre 1832. Il a connu son apogée
dans le milieu du XIXe siècle, c’était alors le principal axe
de communication entre le nord et le sud de la France.
L’arrivée des chemins de fer va ensuite provoquer le déclin
du transport de marchandises par voie d’eau.
Aujourd’hui cet axe fluvial est doublé d’une piste cyclable
pour le bonheur des touristes. Découvrez tout ce que vous

The Burgundy Canal connects Migennes in Yonne to Saint-Jean-de-Losne in Saône,
bridging the gap between Atlantic and Mediterranean waters. It is 242 km long, includes
189 locks, several bridges, and a 3 333-meter-long tunnel at its highest point in Pouilly-
en-Auxois. It runs through our region for 65 km and 30 locks, from Flogny-la-Chapelle to
Aisy-sur-Armançon.
Construction began in 1775 and the canal has been in use since December 1832. Its
heyday was mid-19th Century, when it was the main link between the north and south of
France. The arrival of the railway saw a decline in transporting goods by water.
Nowadays, tourists benefit from the cycling path running alongside the canal. Discover

Le canal du Nivernais, petit joyau de 175 km, serpente
la Bourgogne d’Auxerre dans l’Yonne à Decize dans la Nièvre.
Composé de cent dix écluses, il joint l’Yonne à la Loire et côtoie
entre autres le Parc du Morvan et le vignoble Auxerrois.
Créé en 1853, il a longtemps été utilisé pour le transport
de marchandises et notamment l’acheminement du bois
de chauffage du Morvan à Paris. Il traverse notre territoire
sur 15 km pour douze écluses de Deux-Rivières-Cravant
à Mailly-le-Château.
Aujourd’hui complètement aménagé pour l’itinérance avec son
chemin de halage, vous pourrez profiter sereinement du circuit
en famille, entre amis ou en solo.

Nivernais canal, a small gem stretching 175 km, winds along Auxerre’s Burgundy through the
Yonne to Nièvre’s Decize. With a hundred and ten locks, it joins the Yonne and Loire rivers,
meeting Morvan park and the Auxerrois vineyard — among others — along the way. Created
in 1853, it has long been used to transport goods, namely fire wood from Morvan to Paris. It
passes through our region for 15 km and twelve locks, from Cravant to Mailly-le-Château.
Nowadays it has a tow-path ideal for rambling so you can enjoy the peaceful route with your
family, friends or at your own pace.
