Saying ‘my’ in French Mon, Ma, Mes As you may already know, French nouns fall into 3 categories, masculine, feminine and plural. If we want to say ‘my’ in French, we have 3 options, ‘mon’ (m), ‘ma’ (f) and ‘mes’ (pl.). When we work out which one we need we have to think about which category the noun that follows fits into. Look at the following examples: Because ‘cousin’ is a masculine noun, we need the word ‘mon’ Mon cousin s’appelle Hugo. Ma cousine s’appelle Marie Mes cousins s’appellent Alex et Pierre.
