A Danish cargo ship has been hijacked by
Somali pirates. The freighter-owner needs to
save his crew but will a ransom of millions
of dollars be enough to get everyone home
safely? If you are a fan of the Danish TV
show Borgen, then you are already familiar

Si vous êtes fan de la série danoise Borgen,
vous allez les reconnaître : Soren Malling (le
boss) et Pilou Asbaek (le cuistot), tous deux
mis sous pression par leur compatriote
Tobias Lindholm (scénariste de, eh oui,…
Borgen, et The Hunt de Vinterberg). Une prise
d’otage, mais pas de combat, pas d’acte
héroïque, juste des hommes sous haute ten-
sion, accablés physiquement et moralement
face à une caméra tendue jusqu’à la corde,
qui fixe leur anxiété, épouse leurs espoirs.

en Pillou Asbaek). Een gijzeling, maar zon-
der geweld of heldendaden. Mannen onder
hoge druk, lichamelijk en moreel bedwelmd
tegenover een gespannen camera die hun
angsten en hoop minutieus waarneemt.

jaar, duikt zijn vader op voor zijn deur en
vraagt hem mee op roadtrip. De vader is
op het eerste zicht alles wat de man niet is.
Het wordt een melancholische en lyrische
zoektocht naar verloren familiebanden. Mika
Kaurismäki, de ‘broer van’ , neemt je mee op
een trip vol humor en emotie naar het hoge
Noorden. Deze donkere komedie was alvast
een groot succes in eigen land.

En 1984, un bateau de pêche islandais fait
naufrage en pleine mer. L’équipage périt, sauf
un brave marin bien en chair qui réussit à
rejoindre la terre après avoir nagé plusieurs
heures dans une eau à 5°C ! Un vrai miracu-
lé…
L’islandais Baltasar Kormákur (Jar City et
The Sea, présenté au festival), s’inspire d’une
histoire vraie en précipitant l’empathique Óla-
fur Darri Ólafsson, son héros, dans les eaux
glacées. L’Islande, terre extrême encerclée
par l’eau ; terre de feu aussi : nous sommes
en 1973, une éruption volcanique secoue les
habitants de Heimaey (la seule des îles Vest-
mann à être habitée !) Kormákur se souvient
du drame, dans ce film polaire singulière-
ment chaleureux…

den op zee in 1984. De bemanning komt
om, behalve een man die na uren zwemmen
in ijskoud water, wonder boven wonder, het
land terugvindt.
Ijslander Baltasar Kormákur (Jar City en The
Sea) werd gëinspireerd door dit waargebeurd
verhaal. Door deze ongelooflijke gebeurtenis
herrinert de overlevende zich de vulkanische
utibarsting uit 1973. De film was de Ijslandse
inzending voor de Academy Awards van
vorig jaar.

la place de l’homme dans une société ultra

In haar tweede langspeelfilm (Cold Lunch)
voert Eva Sørhaug een zakenman, een poli-
tieagent en een drugsverslaafde op. Op het
eerste zicht lijken de drie centrale figuren
niets met elkaar te maken. Het verhaal en
de beeldvorming contrasteren sterk. Haar
kaders zijn subtiel en precies, het geweld is
zinloos en koelbloedig, haar ijskoude neutrale
kijk is resoluut en het realisme is ongefil-
terd en afstandelijk. Hoe drie mannen in 90
minuten tijd tot het onomkeerbare en het Director / Réalisateur / Regisseur

Sanctuary is the second collaboration
between the film director Frederik Edfeldt
and the screenwriter Karin Arrhenius. They
had previously worked together on The Girl,
which won the Best Debut Film Award in Pour avoir tué un homme, un père, veuf, sera
Berlin. bientôt arrêté et jeté en prison. Incapable de
se séparer de sa fille, il décide de fuir avec
elle à travers la forêt. Bien vite, ils vont devoir
apprendre à y survivre. La forêt va les tester :
fragiliser le père, grandir la fille.
Pendant ce temps, l’étau policier se resserre
sur les deux fugitifs...
Après The Girl, premier film primé à Berlin,
le tandem Fredrik Edfeldt (réal.) et Karin
Arrhenius (scénariste) continue à travailler en
parfaite osmose. L’écriture, subtile, et la mise
en scène, élégante, sont au service d’une
nature au romantisme vénéneux. Un polar en
état de grâce.
Een man, beschuldigd van moord, besluit
om samen met zijn dochter de bossen in te
vluchten, waar ze al snel op de proef worden
gesteld. Een trip over een sterke vader-doch-
ter relatie, over veranderende verhoudingen
en onvoorwaardelijke liefde. De locaties zijn
adembenemend, de beelden panoramisch,
de kleuren onvergetelijk, de sfeer gracieus en
teder.

prachtige film vol puur realisme en tragische
