FERREIRA AND ANTONELLI WIN IN AUNAY-LES-BOIS
At the end of an exciting weekend of racing in France, Matheus Ferreira (BRA) in OK-Junior and Andrea
Kimi Antonelli (ITA) in OK were the winners of the Event, giving the FIA Karting European Champion-
ship - OK & Junior a very interesting twist.
As noted by CIK-FIA President Felipe Massa, the Races at Aunay-les-Bois were hotly contested between the top specialists,
while the entry for the second Event of the season was high despite the still noticeable presence of the pandemic in some
countries. This is a very encouraging sign for the rest of the FIA Karting season.
The quality of the French organisation was again greatly appreciated, a point to the credit of the K61 team and its president
Claude Gripon. The technical difficulties of the Aunay-les-Bois track made a drastic selection among the participants and the
few incidents that occurred during the weekend were often caused by a poor appreciation of its unique points. The MG Tires
slicks fulfilled their mission perfectly during a Competition that was run entirely in the dry.
As the mid-season mark has just been passed, the hierarchy is being established in the provisional standings with two new
winners in a wide open title hunt. The next meeting will take place in Italy on the Sarno track in six weeks time, before the
conclusion at the end of July in Spain at Zuera.
The last Qualifying Heats on Sunday morning saw the intensity of the confrontations go up a notch, particularly in the Junior
category where several spins played a significant role in the results. The excitement of the young Drivers as the Final Phase
approached sometimes caused them to lose their lucidity.
Junior: Slater penalised, Ferreira wins
Freddie Slater (GBR-Kosmic/Vortex/MG) added another win in his fourth heat, while Alex Powell (JAM-KR/IAME/MG) and
Kean Nakamura Berta (GBR-Exprit/TM Racing/MG) won the other two heats.
After a well-controlled race, Slater crossed the finish line more than eight tenths ahead, but was given a 10» penalty for not
respecting the rules when the race was restarted after the ‘slow’ procedure during the first three laps. Kirill Kutskov (RUS-KR/
IAME/MG) had been in second place for a long time, but his KR Motorsport team-mate Matheus Ferreira (BRA-KR/IAME/
MG) overtook him on the way to the finish and became the official winner of the Final. Tomass Stolcermanis (LVA-Energy/
TM Racing/MG) found himself in third place after a convincing performance throughout the weekend. Maksmilian Popov
(RUS-Tony Kart/Vortex/MG) and Alex Powell made up the top five.

OK: Antonelli wins, Camara consolidates his lead in the Championship
Winner of all four heats, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA-KR/IAME/MG) was ahead of Artem Severiukhin (RUS-Tony Kart/Vortex/
MG) and Rafael Camara (BRA-KR/IAME/MG) on the starting grid for the Final. Antonelli progressively broke away from
Camara and took an impressive victory with a lead of more than 4,5’’. It was another KR Motorsport Driver, Arvid Lindblad
(GBR-KR/IAME/MG), who caused a sensation by moving up from 8th to 3rd place in the Brazilian’s wheel tracks, setting
the fastest lap of the race. Artem Severiukhin had to be satisfied with fourth position whereas Yannick De Brabander (BEL-
Praga/IAME/MG) at 30 years old achieved a remarkable performance in the top five for his return to high level racing that
had started in Genk. Evan Giltaire (FRA-KR/IAME/MG) lost some ground, but finished in a convincing 8th position as top
French Driver.
The exemplary performance of Maxime Léger (FRA-Kosmic/Vortex/MG) caught everyone’s attention: it was the first time
that a disabled driver has taken part in an FIA Karting European Championship Event. Maxime completed a courageous
challenge by finishing 52nd in the OK Qualifying Heats after setting the 60th time in Practice.

Victory for Lavaux in the International Handikart Trophy
Organised by the K61 club under the aegis of the French ASN FFSA, the fourth edition of the International Handikart Trophy
was very well integrated into the FIA Karting Competition. The CIK-FIA President handed out their medals to the 13 partici-
pants on the starting grid of the Final. Morgan Lavaux (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H1) dominated the Qualifying Heats and the Prefinal
before winning the Final. Joan Lascorz-Moreno (ESP-CRG/Iame-H3) was a formidable opponent, but was disqualified from
the Final due to insufficient weight following a water leak. Mickaël Vaché (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H2) took second place ahead of
Alain Nicolle (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H2).
FIA Karting shares the sadness of the motorbike racing world after the death of the young Swiss hopeful Jason Dupasquier
as a result of his injuries during the Qualifying session of the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello. Jason was a 19 year old MOTO
3 rider.

Au terme d’un week-end de course passionnant en France, Matheus Ferreira (BRA) en OK-Junior et
Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA) en OK ont été les vainqueurs de l’Évènement, donnant ainsi au Champion-
nat d’Europe FIA Karting – OK & Junior une tournure des plus intéressantes.
Comme l’a noté Felipe Massa, le Président de la CIK-FIA, les Courses d’Aunay-les-Bois ont été très disputées entre les meil-
leurs spécialistes tandis que la fréquentation de la deuxième Épreuve de la saison se révélait nombreuse malgré la présence
encore sensible de la pandémie dans certains pays. C’est un signe très encourageant pour la suite de la saison FIA Karting.
La qualité de l’organisation française a de nouveau été grandement appréciée, un point à mettre au crédit de l’équipe du
club K61 et de son président Claude Gripon. Les difficultés techniques du tracé d’Aunay-les-Bois ont effectué une sélection
drastique parmi les participants et les quelques incidents qui ont émaillé le week-end ont souvent été causés par une mau-
vaise appréciation de ses spécificités. Les pneumatiques MG Tires slicks ont parfaitement rempli leur mission lors d’une
Compétition entièrement disputée sur le sec.
Alors que le cap de la mi-saison vient d’être franchi, la hiérarchie se met en place au classement provisoire avec deux nou-
veaux vainqueurs pour une chasse aux titres largement ouverte. Le prochain rendez-vous aura lieu en Italie sur la piste de
Sarno dans six semaines avant la conclusion fin juillet en Espagne à Zuera.
Les dernières Manches Qualificatives du dimanche matin ont vu l’intensité des affrontements monter d’un cran, particulière-
ment en Junior où plusieurs tête-à-queue ont joué un rôle non négligeable dans les résultats. La fébrilité des jeunes Pilotes à
l’approche de la phase finale leur a parfois fait perdre leur lucidité.
Junior : Slater pénalisé, Ferreira vainqueur
Freddie Slater (GBR-Kosmic/Vortex/MG) a ajouté une nouvelle victoire lors de sa quatrième Manche, tandis qu’Alex Powell
(JAM-KR/IAME/MG) et Kean Nakamura Berta (GBR-Exprit/TM Racing/MG) s’imposaient dans les deux autres Courses.
Au terme d’une course bien maîtrisée, Slater franchissait la ligne d’arrivée avec plus de huit dixièmes d’avance, mais une
pénalité de 10’’ lui était infligée pour non respect des règles lors de la relance de la Course après la procédure ‘slow‘ des
trois premiers tours. Kirill Kutskov (RUS-KR/IAME/MG) avait longtemps occupé la 2e position, mais son équipier chez KR
Motorsport Matheus Ferreira (BRA-KR/IAME/MG) le dépassait en vue de l’arrivée et devenait par la suite le vainqueur
officiel de la Finale. Tomass Stolcermanis (LVA-Energy/TM Racing/MG) se retrouvait en 3e position après des performances
convaincantes pendant tout le week-end. Maksmilian Popov (RUS-Tony Kart/Vortex/MG) et Alex Powell compétaient le top
5.

OK : Antonelli s’impose, Camara conforte sa 1re place au Championnat
Vainqueur de ses quatre Manches, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (ITA-KR/IAME/MG) devançait Artem Severiukhin (RUS-Tony Kart/
Vortex/MG) et Rafael Camara (BRA-KR/IAME/MG) sur la grille départ de la Finale. Antonelli s’échappait progressivement
devant Camara et remportait une victoire impressionnante avec plus de 4 ,5’’ d‘avance. C’est un autre Pilote du team KR
Motorsport, Arvid Lindblad (GBR-KR/IAME/MG) qui faisait sensation en remontant de la 8e à la 3e place dans les roues du
Brésilien en effectuant le meilleur tour en course. Artem Severiukhin devait se contenter de la 4e position alors que Yannick
De Brabander (BEL-Praga/IAME/MG) réalisait à 30 ans une performance remarquable dans le top 5 pour son retour à haut
niveau amorcé à Genk. Evan Giltaire (FRA-KR/IAME/MG) cédait du terrain, mais terminait à une convaincante 8e position
en tant que meilleur Français.
La prestation exemplaire de Maxime Léger (FRA-Kosmic/Vortex/MG) a retenu l’attention de tous : c’était en effet la première
fois qu’un pilote handicapé participait à une Épreuve de Championnat d’Europe FIA Karting. Maxime a été au bout d’un défi
courageux en terminant au 52e rang des Manches Qualificatives OK après avoir réalisé le 60e temps des Essais.

Victoire de Lavaux dans le Trophée International Handikart
Organisée par le club K61 sous l’égide de la FFSA, la 4e édition du Trophée International Handikart a très bien été intégrée
à la Compétition FIA Karting. Le Président de la CIK-FIA a remis leurs médailles aux 13 participants sur la grille de départ
de la finale. Morgan Lavaux (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H1) a dominé les Manches Qualificatives et la préfinale avant de s’imposer
lors de la Finale. Joan Lascorz-Moreno (ESP-CRG/Iame-H3) a été pourtant un adversaire redoutable, mais il a été disqualifié
de la Finale pour poids insuffisant à la suite d’une fuite d’eau. Mickaël Vaché (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H2) a récupéré la 2e place
devant Alain Nicolle (FRA-Sodi/Rotax-H2).
