T he Basque Tourism Policy has been greatly
developed and strengthened over the last few
years in the region as a consequence of ever-increasing
demand, considering it an important economic sector
for Basque GDP and a fundamental aspect to improve
this area’s image and its standing on the global scene.
Thanks to its industrial history, the Basque Country is
currently home to a wide range of resources but, above
all, provides many reasons to encourage us to believe
that this region has all the makings of a major world
tourism destination in terms of industrial tourism.
In the Basque Country, industrial tourism is understood
to be the cultural tourism segment that, through its
heritage or historical aspect (visiting old factories,
mines and other facilities that are no longer working
but have high tourism-cultural value), or living industry
(visiting active companies), show us what the Basque
Country is all about, its history and economic activity,
recalling certain professions, helping us understand its
urban development and interpret its landscape.
Backing Industrial Tourism in the Basque Country fits in
with Strategic Directives from the Basque Government
Department of Tourism, Trade and Consumption for
2017-2020 and with the Basque Tourism Strategy 2030
goals as this helps distribute tourist flows in the region,
encourages specialisation and deseasonalisation,
extending average stays and creating value for local
communities.

L a politique touristique a connu ces dernières
années un grand développement et une forte
consolidation en Euskadi, du fait que la demande ne
cesse d’augmenter et que le tourisme est considéré
comme un secteur économique important pour le PIB
basque, ainsi que comme un élément fondamental pour
l’amélioration de l’image et du positionnement de ce
territoire sur la scène mondiale.
Grâce à son histoire industrielle, Euskadi possède
aujourd’hui de nombreuses ressources, mais surtout de
nombreuses raisons de penser qu’il existe un terreau
idéal pour que cette région puisse devenir l’une des
principales destinations touristiques de référence dans
le monde du tourisme industriel.
Dans le cas basque, le tourisme industriel est le
segment du tourisme culturel qui, à travers son lesg
patrimonial ou historique (anciennes usines, mines
et autres installations, qui ont cessé leur activité
productive et qui ont été revalorisées touristiquement
ou culturellement), ou son industrie vivante
(entreprises actuellement actives), permet de connaître
la réalité d’Euskadi, son histoire et son activité
économique, la mémoire du travail, comprendre son
développement urbain et interpréter son paysage.
L’engagement en faveur du Tourisme Industriel à
Euskadi s’inscrit dans le cadre des Orientations
Stratégiques du Ministère du Tourisme, du Commerce
et de la Consommation du Gouvernement Basque pour
la période 2017-2020, ainsi que dans les objectifs
de la Stratégie de Tourisme Basque 2030, dans la
mesure où ce produit contribue à la répartition des
flux touristiques sur le territoire, à la spécialisation et
désaisonnalisation, au prolongement du séjour moyen
et à la création de valeur pour les communautés locales.
