Lindy spoke very well, despite confessing to a few pre-speech jitters. Arteast is fortunate to have her at the helm, with the knowledgeable support of our Past President, Lynne Als- ford and a dedicated Board of Directors. Lindy also had the enjoyable task of announcing the Ju- rors’ Choice awards. Warm congratulations are due to the winners: Stephen Quinlan for his acrylic painting on birch panel, entitled A River flows from the Heart of the Sun; Victoria Palmer for her pen and ink image, entitled Mélis- sance; and, Kate Daller for her oil painting, entitled Wait- ing for the Biscayne Belle. Patrick Imai is this year’s winner of the Arteast Trophy for the “Award of Excellence” title. His gleaming selenite sculpture, Crystal Ridge, attracted well-deserved attention during the vernissage. Mosaic 2018 runs from February 8 to March 13 in the Trinity Art Gallery of the Shenkman Arts Centre. Member in the News Congratulations to Arteast member Wendy Canci who opened Da Artisti, a studio and gallery located in the heart of Cumberland Village. A grand opening and vernissage was held on November 17 of last year and many Arteast members were in attendance. Members Danielle Beaulieu, Jacqueline Collins and Claire Ouseley showed their paintings in the charming gallery, housed in a historic building that dates back to 1912. It was previously a bank, a post office and a general store. Wendy, a glass fusion artist, offers studio space as well as group or private introductory fused glass lessons. Classes are also offered in different mediums. The Gallery displays the works of local artists, including paint- ings, furniture, pottery, jewellery and various crafts and offers a cornucopia of creative delights for those in search of unique items. Grow with Art Nude Photography: Roy Whiddon By Mary Ann Varley The first presenter for this year’s Grow With Art Speaker Series on February 23 was a long standing member of Ar- teast: Roy Whiddon. Bob McAlpine introduced Roy, telling us that they share a studio and have been fellow photogra- phers for many years. Both have a scientific background in physics and took up photography as a hobby. Roy’s models are local professionals and dancers, both Roy began his presentation with a definition of Art from male and female.
