Lesson 1: Vocabulary building Follow the link to Quizlet.com to learn, revise and practise the vocabulary needed for this topic. Quizlet is a free website that allows you to learn new vocabulary using flashcards, games and quizzes. I would recommend that you spend some time on the “learn” section to familiarise yourself with the vocabulary, before moving on to the games section and, finally, the “test” section to self-assess your understanding of the vocabulary. Task 1: Present tense -er verbs. In French, verbs end in -er, -ir, or -re when they are in their infinitive form. This means that we don’t know the tense, or who (the subject pronoun), yet. We need to conjugate the infinitive depending on the tense we want to use and the subject pronoun e.g. I, you, we etc. To conjugate -er verbs into the present tense (what you are doing/normally do) we need to take off the -er ending and replace it with the following verb endings depending on who is doing the action. See the table below to help (we will be using the -er verb écouter – to listen to): So, j’écoute = I listen to. Can you complete the list below? - I listen to = J’écoute - You listen to (s.) = - He/she listens to = - We listen to = - You listen to (pl.) = - They listen to = Task 2: translate the following into English:
