THE CHANGING FACE OF MINING LE VISAGE CHANGEANT DE L’INDUSTRIE MINIÈRE WELCOME TO MONTREAL! CIM Convention 2019 is all about “I”: Innovation, Intelligence, Information, Impact, Influ- ence…These watchwords will connect professionals from all fields of mining during this three-day convention featuring more than 200 technical oral presentations by industry thought leaders. Focusing on mining operations, the technical program streams will deliver case studies and best practice lectures on Sustainable Mining, Innovation, Automation and Data, Rocks to Resources, Health and Safety, and People and Commu- nities.. In addition, two select symposia will take place parallel to the CIM Convention: the 7th North American Iron Ore Symposium (IOS) and the 17th North American Mine Ventilation Symposium (NAMVS2019). A new and dynamic two-hour opening plenary on the Changing Face of Mining will kick- off the convention with vigour. Four distinguished panelists will engage a room of 500+ delegates – and 100+ remote attendees from around the world – with thought-provoking discussions, debates and digital interaction. Resources Matter! is the theme for Keynote Tuesday. Two high-profile speakers will pre- sent “Crushing the Consumption Conundrum” and the “Business Case for Diversity in Mining: Harnessing diversity dividend and mitigating diversity debt.” The 36th edition of the EXPO, Canada’s Mining Marketplace, includes 475 exhibiting com- panies, featuring the latest in mining equipment, solutions and innovations. New this year: 42 presentations on the Innovation Stage will add a technical and surprising aspect to the Expo, and will afford trade show visitors a taste of what the technical program offers. CIM has been fostering the exchange of knowledge, recognizing excellence and bringing people in the mining industry together for 121 years. The Changing Face of Mining is increasingly reflected in the number of students and young leaders involved with the CIM convention and the CIM community in general. Innovation, Intelligence artificielle, Information, Impact, Influence… La lettre «I servira
de fil conducteur dans les discussions entre les professionnels de tous les domaines
de l’industrie minière au cours de ce congrès de trois jours comprenant plus de 200
présentations orales par des leaders d’opinion du secteur. Avec un focus sur les opé-
rations minières, les thèmes du programme technique porteront sur l’exploitation
durable des mines, l’innovation, l’automatisation et les données, la préservation des
ressources, la santé et la sécurité ainsi que les personnes et les communautés. De
plus, deux symposiums auront lieu parallèlement au congrès de l’ICM: le 7 e Sym-
posium nord-américain sur le minerai de fer (IOS) et le 17 e Symposium nord-amé-
ricain sur la ventilation des mines (NAMVS2019).
Un nouveau et dynamique format de séance plénière d’ouverture de deux heures,
mettant en vedette des personnalités éminentes prêtes à vous montrer Le visage
changeant de l’industrie minière, donnera le coup d’envoi du congrès. Cinq leaders
influents débattront et discuteront avec une salle de plus de 500 délégués - et plus
de 100 participants externes du monde entier. La deuxième journée débutera par
une session générale présentant deux conférencières d’honneur dont le message
général est clair : Les ressources avant tout! Leurs visions en matière de gestion de
l’énergie, de l’eau et de la gestion de la diversité et de l’inclusion dans le monde du
travail vous captiveront au-delà de vos perceptions.
La 36e édition de l’EXPO, le marché minier canadien, comprend 475 sociétés expo-
santes présentant les dernières technologies en matière d’équipement, de solutions
et d’innovations minières. Nouveauté cette année: 42 présentations sur la Scène de
l’innovation ajouteront un aspect technique et surprenant à l’Expo et donneront aux
visiteurs du salon un avant-goût des connaissances que les délégués à la confé-
rence acquièrent.
CIM encourage l’échange de connaissances, reconnaît l’excellence et rassemble les
gens de l’industrie minière depuis 121 ans. L’évolution du secteur minier se reflète
de plus en plus dans le nombre d’étudiants et de jeunes dirigeants impliqués dans
la communauté et l’événement de l’ICM. L’ICM 2019 devrait attirer plus de 5 000
délégués du Canada et du monde entier pour l’échange de connaissances, les

All convention activities and events are being held at the Palais des congrès de Mon-
tréal with the exception of the Women in Mining (WIM) Reception, which is being
held at the Westin hotel.

REGISTRATION | INSCRIPTION
The registration desk is located in the Viger foyer on level 200. Delegates must reg-
ister before accessing the technical sessions, purchasing tickets for social functions
or participating in any convention activity. The deadline for all refunds was April 8 -
no exceptions will be made. The conference badge must be worn at all times (includ-
ing during social events) and can be replaced for $25, plus taxes.
L’aire d’inscription est située dans le foyer Viger au niveau 200. Il faut acquitter les
frais d’inscription pour participer au congrès et assister aux présentations tech-
niques et/ou se procurer des billets pour les activités sociales. Aucun rembourse-
ment n’est émis depuis le 8 avril et aucune exception ne sera accordée. Le port de
la cocarde est obligatoire en tout temps (incluant pendant les événements sociaux)
et celle-ci peut être remplacée au coût de $25 plus les taxes.

The North American Iron Ore Industry once again
seems to be at a crossroad. After enjoying record
iron ore prices between 2010 and 2013, followed by
a severe downturn with the dramatic slump in iron
ore prices that started in late 2013, the industry appears to slowly recover, and some
signs of a potential upswing are looming on the horizon. Far from the huge produc-
tion sustained by the three major iron ore players — BHP-Billiton, Rio Tinto and Vale
—, our industry tries to find its way to differentiate itself through Quality, Innovation
and Productivity.
