LA CRAPAUDE – PRESENTATION La Crapaude – a Capella singing Around the table that is used as a percussion instrument, these four women sing, telle stories and udpate songs gathered in Wallonia. Thier show is an invitation to a modren trip within the heart of our rooots, rocked by the infuences and the rythms of the world’s musics. There is no need to speak or to understand the walloon language, you can enjoy the these songs, as you would enjoy bulgarian or occitan songs, with the « small » plus of our own sounds. The aim of La Crapaude is to update forgotten songs of Belgium or to give life to these old songs. Its a rythmic and melodies, very contemporary and surprising experience. With Charlotte Haag, Sabine Lambot, Pascale Sepulchre and Marie Vander Elst.
LA CRAPAUDE – BIOGRAPHY La Crapaude is a vocal plan initiated bay Marie Vander Elst and Pascale Sepulchre. They met in Rochefort, Mary is violonist and Pascale singer, both singing in a vocal quartet. During one year they looked for their « niche ». They sarted with melodies from other conutries ans suddenly evidence was there « Why look elswhere for what is here, in own country ?» They sarted by poking in the walloonish traditionel music, so’s to give life to forgotten songs and treasures. Then they went to fetch Charlotte Haag, Sabine Lambot et Martine Patte to start their choir. Some songs are the result of a collective work. Charlotte, singer violonist and choir leader, composer and suggests original arrangements coming from newly-founded partitions or of registered references. These new arrangements ans the energy of these women, suddenly give life to these songs buried under years of dust. To accompany these percussional songs, they allways take a table and wooden chairs and they play with their hands, fngers ans elbows. They started as an quintet in September 2013 and travelled all around southern Belgian. Among are shows they performed the frst part of the play of « Paysannes » - a coproduction of the Compagnie Buissonnière et Alvéole théâtre et that since February 2014. Their own frst play « Djôsèf » is the starting of aproject : it will grow rapidly and become a play of it’s own. Since March 2015 la Crapaude has grown into a woman with 4 voices and is constantly incrassing their repertory through energetic and rythmic, and also tender and cradly songs. The plans are going throuhg possitively and la Crapaude travels all around Belgium and continues to transmit these enchanted treasures. In autumn of 2016, a wonderful project took place « le projet Craphome ». Backed up by « La maison de la Culture Famenne Ardenne et les Tournées Art et Via » the choir went to a resthouse and proposed a concert to take place in their premises. Sometimes a class-room is invited to meet older ones,younger ones and la Crapaude wonderfull exchanges.
In the winter of 2017, the choir recorded their frst album « A tot Spiyï » which means « Wanting to smash », refecting the work of their 3 frst years, an important diving in the tradition of the walloonnian songs and their rearrangements. A new identily is born « La Crapaude. At the same time and educational booklet is edited by the Namur Province. It can be found on demand at the Province or througt thr web-site of « la Crapaude » It is the result of a wonderful collaboration, where words, sounds, rythmes take their places, to bring back our culture, our ancestral language. Plenty of games for familygames, for schools, holiday playgrounds and more… La crapaude has been granted several prizes at competitions of the French Song organised by La Ruche Théâtre in 2017. La Crapaude has been to Brussels, to attend the frst presentation of Esquisse, Le Monde est un Village of the 28th of april 2017at « The Theatre 140 » They were hartly wellcome, full of enthousiasme. La Crapaude sings in Wallonia but would like to be knowned beyond the borders, as a Belgian choir of the musical world. Two singers of La Crapaude starded lately in November 2017 a workshops called « Chanson Wallone »at the « Centre Culturel de Ciney » The workshop was highly apprecciated by the participants and encouraged Marie and Pascale to start another one as soon as possible. Both the adults ans the youngers ones enjoyed singing belgian songs with rythmes and bodyly percussions. The wallonian language is even more enjoyable when it is sung, Good to know A plan is under discussion with « Les jeunesses Musicales de Namur. The aim of the choir is to induce children to sing in their school in wallonish. The 2 singers will soon be organising their frst singing courses for children and adults. For the coming months, the singers want to interprete a new repertory : new lyrics and of course, to sing and sing again.
