Meeting British companies and previewing new
creations

Introduction
We are delighted to be working with the Les Accroche-Cœurs Festival in Angers, France for the first time to present a selection
of high-quality outdoor work from the UK, as well as a programme of artists’ presentations from some of the UK’s most
innovative and creative companies.
The Festival’s ‘So British!’ programme celebrates those aspects of Britishness which are so well known throughout Europe: self-
deprecation, absurdity, satire, and of course, eccentricity. Whilst Britishness may contain an element of these things, we invite
you to look beyond the clichés to see the creativity, ambition and political urgency that inform the work of artists in the UK. The
work programmed at Les Accroche-Cœurs highlights a small taster of the street arts being created in Britain: we hope you will be
inspired to discover more.
The ‘So British!’ programme at Les Accroche-Cœurs features work from four UK companies: C-12 Dance Theatre Company –
Trolleys; Corey Baker Dance – Phone Box; The Natural Theatre Company; Wired Aerial Theatre - As the World Tipped.
Outdoor arts is thriving in the UK and embraces a great diversity of art forms and scales. We are pleased to have such a great
range of work from established artists to share with you as part of the festival programme. We hope you'll join us as we
celebrate the best of British in the backdrop of one of France’s leading celebrations of street arts and circus.
On Sunday morning, we will host the second of Les Accroche-Cœurs’s professional meetings. Supported by Arts Council England,
promoters can learn more about new projects from three UK companies: Mimbre; Stopgap Dance Company and Worldbeaters
in collaboration with German outdoor arts company Dundu. The XTRAX team will also give an overview of the landscape of the
UK outdoor arts sector and our work. We hope you will find these presentations useful.
At a time of political uncertainty, we especially value this collaboration with Les Accroche-Cœurs. The arts sector in the UK is
having to fight hard to maintain its position in Europe, as we begin to face the reality of the outcome of the 2016 referendum.
We believe in the power of festivals to bring people together in the spirit of friendship, and in the importance of international
exchange to foster understanding between cultures. We are enormously grateful to everyone at Les Accroche-Cœurs for their
support and hope that this collaboration will lead to further exchanges between artists and festivals in the UK and France in
years to come.

Nous sommes ravis de collaborer, pour la première fois cette année, avec le festival Les Accroche-Cœurs à Angers. Cette édition
inclut des artistes britanniques d’un talent exceptionnel, ainsi qu’une activité professionnelle où quelques-unes des compagnies
les plus novatrices et créatives qui se produisent au Royaume-Uni actuellement vont présenter ses nouvelles créations.
Le programme du festival « So British » met à l’honneur quelques traits qui ont valu à la « British Attitude » sa réputation pan-
européenne : l’autodépréciation, l’absurde, la satire et bien entendu, l’excentricité. Bien que ces attributs peuvent être associés
à ce que signifie d’être British, nous vous invitons à regarder au-delà des clichés pour voir la créativité, ambition et urgence
politique qui influence le travail des artistes du Royaume Uni. Les spectacles programmés pour Les Accroche-Cœurs mettent en
lumière un aperçu des arts de la rue britanniques : nous espérons que ceci vous inspire à en découvrir plus.

Les arts de la rue connaissent un intérêt florissant au Royaume-Uni, poussant le développement artistique sous des formes et à
des échelles très variées. Nous sommes fiers de partager avec vous cette diversité à travers les spectacles d’artistes reconnus qui
sont au programme du festival. Nous espérons que vous nous joindrez pour célébrer le meilleur de ce focus britannique au cours

Dimanche matin nous coordonnerons la seconde des réunions professionnelles des Accroche-Cœurs. Avec le soutien du Conseil
des arts d’Angleterre (Arts Council England), les professionnels pourront s’informer davantage sur les projets organisés par trois
compagnies britanniques : Mimbre, Stopgap Dance Company et Worldbeaters, en collaboration avec la troupe de théâtre de rue
allemande, Dundu. L’équipe d’XTRAX partagera également une introduction autour des arts de la rue au Royaume Uni. Nous
espérons que vous trouverez ces présentations utiles et informatives.
Nous traversons actuellement une période d’incertitude. C’est pourquoi nous accordons à cette collaboration avec Les
Accroche-Cœurs une importance toute particulière. Le secteur des arts de la rue du Royaume Uni lutte fort pour maintenir sa
position en Europe, tandis que nous commençons à faire face à la réalité des résultats du référendum 2016. Nous croyons au
pouvoir des festivals pour rapprocher les peuples dans un esprit d’amitié, pour promouvoir l’importance des échanges
internationaux et encourager l’entente et la tolérance entre les différentes cultures. Nous sommes extrêmement reconnaissants

About XTRAX
XTRAX was established in 2001 and is known for bringing together artists and promoters from across the globe to
network, develop new partnerships and experience high-quality performances.
We work with a range of partners to support the development and touring of inspirational outdoor performance
from the UK and beyond. We are currently supported by Arts Council England to deliver Platform4: UK, a strategic
programme designed to support the international promotion and export of UK outdoor artists.
As part of this programme, we are working with existing showcase partners in the UK including
the Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in London and Out There Festival in Great Yarmouth; we have also
been developing relationships with a number of street arts festivals in Europe and further afield with a view to
raising the profile of UK outdoor arts companies and creating opportunities for touring internationally.
In addition to our international showcases, we are the managers of Without Walls, a commissioning and touring
consortium of nine of the most significant UK outdoor arts festivals and organisations, dedicated to the creation of
new and ambitious UK outdoor work. We also run the Without Walls Associate Touring Network, working with a
further ten UK festivals. We are the managers and producers for the internationally renowned aerial dance company
Wired Aerial Theatre, whose large-scale show As The World Tipped continues to tour the world and can be seen in
Angers on the 8th and the 9th of September.
We manage XTRAX ID, a free listing of over 1000 UK and international street artists, shows, promoters, festivals
and events. The directory is here to help artists to promote their shows and organisers to programme their events.

XTRAX/Out There Festival International Showcase, Great Yarmouth, United Kingdom 15 – 17 September 2017
Building on the international reputation of one of the UK’s most dynamic and outlandish festivals, the XTRAX/Out
There Festival International Showcase promises four days of artists presentations, ground-breaking UK and European
outdoor arts, and will coincide with SeaChange Arts’ international networking event.
Seoul Street Art Festival, South Korea 5 – 8 October 2017
XTRAX has been developing relationships with leading festivals in South Korea. We invited a small delegation of
Korean festivals to attend the XTRAX/GDIF Showcase in 2016 and again this year with a view to developing stronger
relationships with the Korean sector. As part of the “UK-Korea Season 2017-18 – Creative Futures” we will present
several UK outdoor artists as part of the Seoul Street Arts Festival, one of South Korea’s leading outdoor events.

The XTRAX/GDIF Showcase is one of the UK’s key meeting points for outdoor arts professionals. Take part in an

associé à une dizaine d’autres festivals britanniques. Nous gérons les productions de la compagnie de danse
aérienne de renommée internationale Wired Aerial Theatre, dont le prodigieux spectacle As The World Tipped,
continue de divertir les foules dans le monde entier. Ce spectacle sera présenté à Angers le 8 et 9 septembre.
Nous gérons également XTRAX ID, un « catalogue » gratuit qui regroupe plus de 1000 événements, festivals,
promoteurs, spectacles et artistes de rue, britanniques ou internationaux. Ce catalogue a pour but de permettre aux
artistes de promouvoir leurs spectacles plus facilement et aux organisateurs d’établir le programme de leurs
événements.
Projets et événements XTRAX à venir
XTRAX/Out There Festival International Showcase, Great Yarmouth, Royaume-Uni du 15 au 17 septembre 2017
Tablant sur la réputation internationale de l’un des festivals britanniques les plus dynamiques et extravagants,
l’XTRAX/Out There Festival International Showcase promet quatre jours comblés de représentations artistiques et de
spectacles de rue innovants réalisés par des artistes britanniques et européens. Ce festival se déroulera en même
temps que l’événement international de networking organisé par SeaChange Arts.
Seoul Street Art Festival, Corée du Sud du 5 au 8 octobre 2017
XTRAX a développé des partenariats avec des festivals majeurs de Corée du Sud. En 2016, nous avons invité une
délégation d’artistes coréens à participer au festival XTRAX/GDIF, invitation que nous avons renouvelée cette année
avec l’espoir de renforcer davantage nos relations avec le secteur artistique coréen. Dans le cadre de l’initiative
« UK-Korea Season 2017-18 – Creative Futures », plusieurs artistes de rue britanniques seront, grâce à notre soutien,
au programme du « Seoul Street Arts Festival », un des plus grands festivals de rue de Corée du Sud.
