La Meije
Depuis 1973, le Parc national des Ecrins pré-
serve un espace naturel exceptionnel qui offre
la garantie aux visiteurs d'observer une nature
authentique, une flore et une faune variée. Le
cœur du parc national est ouvert à tous mais
soumis à une réglementation qu’il est néces-
saire de connaître pour préparer son séjour
(rendez-vous en page 36 pour la découvrir).
Ici, la richesse est immense, depuis les
adrets méditerranéens jusqu’aux sommets presti-
gieux de la Barre des Écrins (4102 m) ou de la Meije
(3984 m), entre la spectaculaire reine des Alpes et la
discrète renoncule des glaciers, entre l’oreillard roux
et l’aigle royal…

C’est une montagne sauvage et sans
artifice, aux sommets prestigieux où l’esprit des
lieux résonne encore des grands noms de l’alpi-
nisme. Espace de liberté et de rencontre pour tous
les amoureux de la montagne, nous vous invitons à
venir y écrire à votre tour votre histoire.
Le musée « Mémoires d’Alpinismes » retrace
l’épopée de ces hommes et de leur passion. Dès le
XIXe siècle, l’Oisans s’ouvre à ceux qui souhaitent
découvrir ses vallées sauvages et ses sommets
encore vierges. Les hommes de la vallée accom-
pagnent là-haut ces aventuriers. C’est le point
de départ de grandes lignées de guides, les Turc,
Rodier, Paquet…
Pierre GASPARD est de ceux-là. Il rentrera dans la
légende le 16 août 1877 avec son client Emmanuel
Boileau de Castelnau en inscrivant à son palmarès,
la première ascension de la Meije par sa face sud, au
départ de la Bérarde. THE HEART

The Saint Christophe-La Bérarde area is
renowned in mountaineering history for its summits
and the historic figures who coveted them. An awe inspiring
wilderness, it appeals to mountain lovers and those with a
taste for the freedom which accompanies such an environ-
ment. Join us and savour a unique mountain experience.
The museum in Saint Christophe, Mémoires d’Alpinismes,
details the local mountaineering history and the stories of
its courageous men and women. Since the XIXth century,
explorers have been searching for remote valleys and ways
to reach the yet untouched summits. They were assisted by
local men, such as the Turcs, the Rodiers, and the Paquets,
giving rise to the mountain guide tradition.

The local guide Pierre GASPARD became famous for the
