Mit dem Umbau der Humanistenbibliothek verwirklicht die Stadt
Sélestat ein Vorhaben ganz im Geiste ihrer Bürger, die dieses
herausragende Erbe seit dem 16. Jahrhundert mit großer Sorgfalt
aufbewahren und pflegen. Die Stadt leistet mit diesem Projekt
einen Beitrag zur Weitergabe des humanistischen Gedankens,
der nichts von seiner Gültigkeit verloren hat und auch künftigen
Generationen als Orientierung dienen wird. Die neue Bibliothek
wird 2018 ihre Türe öffnen.

Dès le 14e siècle un esprit nouveau souffle sur l’Europe. À mi-
chemin entre les grands centres intellectuels de l’Italie et des
Pays-Bas, Sélestat joue un rôle clé dans sa diffusion. Son école
latine est l’une des plus réputées du Saint-Empire Romain Germanique.
À la pointe des innovations pédagogiques, elle forme des
centaines d’élèves à ce nouvel esprit. Pendant près d’un siècle,
de 1440 à 1526, la cité impériale joue un rôle clé au cœur des
nouveaux réseaux de diffusion de la connaissance. De cette
période faste de son histoire, Sélestat conserve un témoignage
unique : sa bibliothèque est le phare de l’humanisme rhénan.

Starting in the 16th century, a new spirit flows across Europe.
1440-1526 Midway between the major intellectual centers of Italy and the
Netherlands, Selestat plays a key role in its spread. Its school of
Latin is one of the most prestigious in the Holy Roman Empire. At

1526 – war die freie Reichsstadt eine wichtige Station bei der Wei-
tergabe des humanistischen Denkens. Aus dieser Blütezeit ist dem
heutigen Sélestat ein einzigartiges Zeugnis erhalten geblieben:
seine Bibliothek, ein Leuchtturm des rheinischen Humanismus.

Beatus Rhenanus est l’un de ceux qui font de Sélestat l’un des
foyers pédagogiques et intellectuels majeurs en Europe, un
carrefour par lequel le patrimoine philosophique et littéraire de
l’Antiquité, redécouvert par la Renaissance venue d’Italie, donne
toute sa vigueur à une nouvelle Europe Culturelle.
Ami intime d’Erasme de Rotterdam - Prince des humanistes -, il
lègue à sa ville natale l’intégralité de sa bibliothèque personnelle
peu de temps avant sa mort, le 20 juillet 1547.
Ces 670 volumes forment alors l’une des plus riches et des plus
exceptionnelles collections de l’époque. La dimension universelle
de la Bibliothèque Humaniste est née.

Beatus Rhenanus is one of the figures who establishes Selestat as a
major pedagogical and intellectual center of Europe, a crossroads
through which the philosophical heritage of antiquity, rediscovered
by the Italian renaissance, gives all of its vigor to a new Cultural Europe.

Rudy Ricciotti, architecte de renommée internationale, est le lauréat du grand
prix national de l’architecture en 2006 et notamment le concepteur du Musée
des Civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée (MuCEM) à Marseille.
Le projet architectural imaginé par Rudy Ricciotti aspire à renforcer l’enracine-
ment de ce précieux équipement patrimonial dans le tissu des rues et places
du centre-ville de Sélestat. La qualité architecturale de l’extension, habillée
de grès rose et marquée par une série de piliers jouant sur des effets de trans-
parence et de lumière constitue un bel équilibre entre héritage et modernité.
Le complet réaménagement intérieur permettra de révéler des espaces amples
et de valoriser l’aspect monumental de l’édifice. La nouvelle distribution
des espaces offrira, outre une souplesse d’utilisation, une indéniable qualité
fonctionnelle garante de la sécurité des collections, tout en offrant un réel
confort d’accueil et de visite à l’attention de tous les publics.

Der mit rosafarbenem Sandstein verkleidete Anbau erhält eine Säulenfassade,
die ein Spiel mit Transparenz und Lichteffekten erzeugt. Auf dieser Balance
zwischen historischem Erbe und Moderne beruht die architektonische Qualität
des Projekts.
Durch die grundlegende Umgestaltung des Innenraums werden die großen
Räume und die monumentale Wirkung des Gebäudes zur Geltung gebracht. Die
Räume werden neu aufgeteilt, sodass sie flexibel genutzt werden können und
sehr funktional sind. Dies gewährleistet zum einen die Sicherheit der Sammlung
und stellt zum anderen ein echtes Plus für den Empfang aller Besucher dar.

au cœur des livres et de la pensée humaniste qui gagna Sélestat
aux 15e et 16e siècles.
Dans une ambiance méditative, la scénographie, inspirée par
les anciens scriptoriums, conduira le visiteur vers la réserve
visible, écrin magnifié qui conservera le trésor, point culminant
de la visite. Les visiteurs bénéficieront de modes d’acquisition
des contenus multiples (textes, vitrines, interfaces numériques)
offrant une grande liberté d’approche et d’appropriation en
fonction de leurs centres d’intérêts ou de leurs connaissances.

Le projet de restructuration de la Bibliothèque Humaniste est

d’une collection patrimoniale absolument exceptionnelle.
Un vaste chantier des collections (livres, objets et œuvres d’art)
est mené par l’équipe de la Bibliothèque Humaniste afin de
préparer au mieux les collections à leur réintégration dans le
futur équipement.

die Mitarbeiter der Bibliothek die Sammlungen (Bücher, Objekte,
Kunstwerke) auf den Umzug in die neuen Räumlichkeiten
