MISSION Eastwood Schools commits to impacting the world by teaching students to be driven by a balance of mind, body and soul, and to couple knowledge with integrity, ambition with compassion, and achievement with service. 2 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp
MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL DIRECTOR We write today with an enormous sense of responsibility. It had been our fervent hope since the outset of the corona virus pandemic that public health measures and increased availability of testing would allow us to offer our students an incredible learning experience this fall that, by including more remote learning, social distancing, and other safety precautions, would enable all the students to learn on campus. Unfortunately, COVID-19 continues to spread at an alarming rate across the country, with approximately 400+ new cases reported daily over just the past few days. Below in this guide, you will find our online method of learning, and the sample schedules for your children, should you choose to enroll in our fully online school. We understand many people are moving, traveling or unable to attend our school, so we’ve made our school accessible to everyone, whereever you are. Education should be accessible to all; with our vast experience in the online learning sphere for over 10 years, we are ready for a digital experiential learning experience. We know that there will be many questions that arise about this fully online academic program. We are available for all parents that need more clarity via phone or email. All of us at Eastwood are deeply grateful for the patience that families and students have shown as we have navigated the rapidly changing landscape of this evolving global crisis. We sincerely believe that the educational experience that students will receive this fall will be among the finest available in the world. We will do all that we can to keep each class involved and connected virtually so that they can continue to interact and share their Eastwood Experience with classmates in a safe and productive way. I want to thank every parent that stood by us over the last few months, and over the years. It’s because of you, we are still fully operational. Thank you for your trust in Eastwood with your (our) children. Thank you for being part of the Eastwood community, Sincerely, Dr. Michel Khoury 3 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp

Early Years Online Learning Tools 14 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp
EARLY YEARS ONLINE TOOLS EARLY YEARS ONLINE TOOLS GOOGLE CLASSROOM The purpose of using the Google Classroom is to ensure continuity of the teaching and learning by complementing the learning experiences of the physical classroom. All grade levels in the Early Years and Elementary departments will refer to their Google Classrooms for required assignments, tasks, and resources shared by the teachers. Each grade level will have one common G Classroom for all students and teachers. Students will receive invites to the classrooms at the beginning of the year. The classwork will be organized into disciplines to help keep track of the assignments. For Homeroom, the section ‘Inquiry’ will host all the work related to the unit of inquiry. The sections ‘Mathematics’ and ‘Language Arts’ will host all the work related to the disciplinary stand-alone units of inquiry respectively. All student assignments need to be uploaded as a PDF on Classwork. The Stream is reserved for teacher class announcements only. GOOGLE MEET Google Meet is the platform used by EIS in case of online learning mandated by the closure of the school’s physical campus. Students at EIS will be required to log into Google Meet with their Eastwood student e-mail address in order for them to be able to access online classes. The purpose of these classes is to provide the students with teacher instruction and support in case of school closure. These sessions will take the form of group sessions, and/or individual sessions as per students’ needs. GOOGLE CALENDAR Students will be sent calendar invites to join online classes. These invites will be visible on the front page of meet.google.com. In order for these invitations to be visible and automatically appear on the home page, students need to be logged into their Eastwood Student account. 15 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp
ASSESSMENTS + ATTENDANCE ASSESSMENTS Assessments are project-based and open-ended tasks that are conducted during the Google Meet sessions. Students are required to complete the tasks independently. These tasks are unannounced to ensure authenticity in student responses. ATTENDANCE Students in all grade levels are required to attend online classes as these classes are in place to ensure that their learning experience is uninterrupted. The teaching and learning continues from one session to the next, as they are connected and built on each other. Teachers will be taking attendance and a lack of attendance online may jeopardize the student’s teaching and learning and may place them at risk for promotion to the next grade level. HOMEWORK For students in Early Years, there is no homework given during online learning but rather a list of suggested weekly activities to accompany the online teaching. These weekly activities are posted on Google Classroom. REINFORCEMENT ACTIVITIES MAY BE ASSIGNED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS FOR STUDENTS IN KG1 & KG2. 16 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp

OTHER BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS OTHER BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS Students are asked to sit in a learning friendly environment, preferably on a desk with correct posture and adequate height of chair and table. Their environment should be quiet and with limited disruptions. We strongly recommend that games on iPad are restricted or have time-limits in order to avoid unnecessary distractions. If assistance is needed for restrictions, please let us know. Students are asked to keep a bottle of water next to them to drink when needed instead of having to go to the kitchen and miss out on instructional time. Snacking can happen between sessions and during break but not as the student is engaged in a live-online session. On G-Meet, students’ microphones are expected to be muted at all times unless asked by the teacher to unmute. If the student has any questions, he/she is asked to mention so in the chat-box, when granted permission by the teacher, the student can then unmute himself/herself to pose the question. The G-Meet chat is reserved for session-related questions, answers, and discussions. Student are asked not to engage in irrelevant conversation on the chat during instructional time. 43 https://www.eastwoodis.com/Admissions/Apply?utm_source=PDFcampaign&utm_content=mp
