THE 1st QUARTER IN REVIEW
With the new FIG Authorities having been in place for a quarter now, I would like to take a moment to take stock of this period.
My very first task after assuming the position of FIG President was to respond to complaints regarding the Intercontinental Judges Courses held
late last year. I rose to the challenge of fact-checking, without seeking to escape from these criticisms.
The result of the investigation was that there were errors in the examination results of the Intercontinental Judges Courses. These mistakes
were the product of a combination of computer and human errors, and were unintentional. I immediately issued an apology to everyone. My
first job as FIG President was to apologise.
Consequently, I instructed the Technical Committees and the FIG staff to review and re-analyse all exams. They stayed late every night
performing the review. However, the correct results were communicated only at the end of March. This caused serious problems for you. I
would like to take this occasion to sincerely apologise once again to the Gymnastics family.
Beginning with the next cycle, the procedures followed at the Intercontinental Judges Courses will be reformed. I promise you that exam
scoring will be automated, using a computer system with zero errors.
I chaired the first Executive Committee meeting with the new EC members in February. The first thing I did was to put in place a new system of
organisation.
I appointed each of the three Vice Presidents to be in charge of a specific category: “Innovation” (Nellie Kim), “Development” (Luo Chaoyi)
and “Competition” (Vasily Titov). I also appointed each EC member as President or Vice President of a Commission, while each commission
president appointed its members.
Each commission also put a quadrennial goal in place. Each goal was presented to and approved by the EC.
From now on, the activities of each commission as it strives to reach its goal will be
verified at every EC meeting. It means the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle will be
applied repeatedly during the next four years.
It will be a tough four years for the FIG Authorities and the FIG staff.
Being an FIG Authority is not an honorary post. For the next four years, the FIG Authorities and staff will realise that they are supposed to be
hard workers with grueling missions.
Look at gymnasts: they are strongly muscled and carry very little fat. It’s the same for the FIG. The FIG will pare fat from its body during the next
four years, transforming itself into a new, lean FIG, with muscles strong as steel. The FIG must do this for the Gymnastics family as well.

RETOUR SUR LE 1er TRIMESTRE
Les nouvelles Autorités de la FIG ont pris leurs fonctions depuis un trimestre, aussi permettez-moi de faire le point sur la période écoulée.
Ma toute première tâche en tant que Président de la FIG fut de répondre aux plaintes à propos des cours de juges intercontinentaux qui se sont
tenus l’année dernière. J’ai commencé par faire une vérification des faits sans esquiver les plaintes.
Du coup, nous avons trouvé qu’il y avait eu des erreurs dans les résultats des examens des cours de juges intercontinentaux. Ces fautes sont le fruit
d’une combinaison d’erreurs humaines et d’erreurs informatiques, mais n’étaient pas intentionnelles.
J’ai aussitôt présenté mes excuses à tout le monde. Mon premier travail en tant que Président de la FIG a été de présenter mes excuses.
Par conséquent, j’ai chargé les comités techniques et le personnel de la FIG de revoir et ré-examiner tous les résultats. Ils sont restés jusqu’à tard le
soir pour procéder à cette révision. Toutefois il a fallu attendre la fin du mois de mars pour que les résultats corrects soient donnés. Cela a engendré
de sérieux problèmes pour vous. Je profite de cette occasion pour présenter à nouveau mes plus sincères excuses à la famille de la gymnastique.
Dès le prochain cycle, une réforme de toutes les méthodes des cours de juges intercontinentaux sera entreprise, je vous promets que les scores
seront automatiquement générés par ordinateur afin que le système ne produise aucune erreur.
La première réunion du Comité exécutif (CE) que j’ai présidée en présence des nouveaux membres s’est tenue en février. La première chose que j’ai
faite fut de mettre en place la nouvelle organisation.
J’ai confié à chacun des trois vice-présidents la responsabilité d’un secteur spécifique: «Innovation (Nellie Kim)», «Développement (Luo Chaoyi)»
et «Compétition (Vasily Titov)». J’ai aussi nommé chaque membre du CE président ou vice-président d’une commission et chaque président de
commission a nommé ses membres.
Chaque commission doit mettre en œuvre un objectif quadriennal fixé. Chaque objectif a été proposé au CE et accepté par le CE.
A partir de maintenant, toutes les activités des commissions dans l’optique d’atteindre
cet objectif seront vérifiées lors de chaque réunion du CE. Cela signifie que le cycle PFVA
(Planifier - Faire - Vérifier - Agir) sera appliqué en boucle durant quatre ans.
Ce sera quatre années rudes pour les Autorités et le personnel de la FIG.
Etre Autorité de la FIG n’est pas un poste honorifique. Pendant quatre ans, les Autorités et le personnel de la FIG vont prendre conscience qu’ils sont
supposés travailler fort sur des missions exténuantes.
Regardez les gymnastes. Ils sont tout en muscles et n’ont que très peu de gras. C’est la même chose pour la FIG. En quatre ans, la FIG devra perdre
sa graisse afin de se transformer en une nouvelle FIG affûtée et arborant des muscles d’acier. La FIG doit faire cela aussi pour la famille de la
gymnastique.

KING HARALD’S WORLD GYM FOR LIFE CHALLENGE THE ROYAL CHALLENGE UN DEFI ROYAL Now in its third edition after its launch in Dornbirn (AUT) in 2009 and the South African experience in Cape Town in 2013, increasing participation numbers at the quadrennial World Gym for Life Challenge have helped establish it as one of the integral events in the FIG Gymnastics for All calendar. This year’s event will gather gymnasts from all over the world in Vestfold, a coastal region in Southern Norway with a rich history from the Viking era. Participants will feel a royal touch to the activities, since the monarchical head of state, His Majesty King Harald of Norway, has associated himself with the event, which has officially been named the King Harald´s World Gym for Life Challenge 2017. the All-around champion and one in Group competition,
at The World Games, titles are attributed in individual
apparatus finals only, permitting the best with the Hoop,
Ball, Clubs and Ribbon to leap to the forefront.
Rhythmic in Wroclaw is a strictly individual affair. With the
retirement of Belarusian star Melitina Staniouta, Olympic
bronze medallist Ganna Rizatdinova is the only reigning
World Games champion with the possibility of defending
her title. With a month before the Rhythmic Worlds in Italy,
expect a few familiar faces from the Olympics to mingle with
new challengers in a graceful battle for the medals.

in Synchronised Trampoline in Cali (COL) four years ago. Having
attained the top again at the last World Championships, the
2017 goal for men’s pair Dong Dong and Tu Xiao and women’s
competitors Li Dan and Zhong Xingping is simple: stay there.

Once dominated by those who excelled at Individual and

Synchronised Trampoline, Double Mini has now attracted its own
specialists. Recently, retirements from the reigning men’s and
women’s World champions has left vacancies at the top of the
discipline. A gymnast’s window for impressing the judges is narrow:
A Double Mini routine, often referred to as a “pass,” takes less than
10 seconds from start to finish. In all, four passes performed over
two rounds of competition will determine the champions.
