Protection du titre
La Confédération mondiale de la physiothérapie (WCPT) revendique l’exclusivité des noms professionnels
« physiothérapie » et « kinésithérapie ». Elle affirme en outre que les titres professionnels « physiothérapeute »
et « kinésithérapeute » et toutes les abréviations faisant référence à ces titres (par exemple « PT », « FT »,
« physio ») 1 sont réservés aux personnes qui possèdent des qualifications approuvées par les organisations
membres de la WCPT ou par les organismes de réglementation.
Le titre professionnel et le terme utilisé pour décrire la pratique de la profession varient et dépendent largement
des racines historiques de la profession dans le pays de l’organisation membre de la WCPT. La politique de la
WCPT est d’utiliser les termes « physiothérapie » ou « physiothérapeute » pour couvrir tous ces titres, mais ils
peuvent être remplacés par les organisations membres de la WCPT en faveur des termes qu’elles ou leurs
membres utilisent officiellement sans qu’aucune modification ne soit impliquée.
La WCPT estime qu’il est dans l’intérêt public de protéger les noms et titres professionnels dans le cadre de la
législation/réglementation/reconnaissance nationale1, 2. Cela est censé garantir que les physiothérapeutes
dûment qualifiés et agréés/enregistrés ont toujours le droit d’exercer en tant que physiothérapeutes. La WCPT
appelle ses organisations membres à travailler avec les gouvernements pour promulguer une
législation/réglementation/reconnaissance, lorsqu’elle n’existe pas encore, afin de protéger le public en limitant
l’utilisation de ces titres à des personnes dûment qualifiées.
