Chers élèves et chers parents,
Nous voilà déjà arrivés à mi-trimestre, après une rentrée des classes réussie, début février.
L’opération de recensement de nos effectifs a été effectuée, vendredi 19 février. Sur les 1549 élèves que
nous accueillons désormais, 776 élèves de la Grande Section à la Seconde suivent le cursus bilingue à
Telopea Park School ; 42 élèves sont en cycle terminal à Narrabundah College.
Comme chaque année, nous nous félicitons de voir nos effectifs continuer d’augmenter aussi bien dans le
courant français que dans le Secondaire australien. Une 3ème classe de 5ème a été créée et la seconde classe
de 2nde, maintenue, dans le courant français. Un nouveau bâtiment préfabriqué a été érigé : abritant deux
salles de classe, il accueillera dans les prochains jours des cours du Secondaire d’éducation à la santé et du
courant français. Dans l’attente, les cours ont dû être relocalisés principalement en bibliothèque du
Secondaire.
Des solutions pérennes doivent toujours être trouvées pour augmenter nos espaces de travail, réduire la liste
d’attente en Primaire et continuer à accompagner notre croissance.
Les travaux de réfection des toits se sont poursuivis durant les congés d’été et ont bien avancé. Les travaux
sont terminés pour le bâtiment abritant les classes de Grande Section et de CE2 ; les échaffaudages ont été
retirés. Trois des quatre salles de classe de CE2 subissant régulièrement des écoulements d’eau ont été
refaites et dotées de climatisation. Des planchers ont également été installés dans ces salles et dans une
salle de classe de CE1.
Les travaux de refection du toit du bâtiment du Secondaire abritant le corrdor de briques ont également eu
lieu pendant ces congés et ont été terminés au tout début de février.
Les travaux se poursuivent dans d’autres parties de l’école et nous espérons les voir achevés dans les
meilleurs délais.
Comme à l’accoutumé, nos équipes se sont mobilisées pour accueillir nos élèves dans les meilleures
conditions ; elles sont mobilisées pour la réussite de toutes et tous. Je tiens particulièrement à saluer le travail
de notre intendante, Mme Mary RYAN et de son équipe administrative ; je salue également l’implication de
tous les instants de nos deux agents de maintenance, Nick KOLUNDZIJA et Ray SCERRI. Mary, quant à
elle, a été promue et exerce de nouvelles fonctions au niveau du directorat pour ce semestre. Je lui souhaite
le meilleur dans son nouveau poste et souhaite donc la bienvenue à M. Hayden WEEKS qui la remplacera
prochainement.
Cette année, nous sommes heureux de revenir à une certaine normalité, même si certaines restrictions
perdurent, ce qui nous permet de reprendre et de lancer des projets éducatifs :
- comme le championnat de natation organisé en ligne, projet piloté par le lycée Condorcet de
Sydney, faisant participer les établissements scolaires de la zone Asie-Pacifique et relevant de
l’Agence pour l’Enseignement français à l’Etranger. Notre professeur d’Education physique et
sportive du Primaire, M. Thibault LEGOUËFF prépare activement nos élèves de Cours Moyen et de
Sixième à la compétition.
- M. LE GOUËFF pour le Primaire, Megan TAYLOR et ses collègues d’EPS pour le Secondaire
préparent aussi activement les olympiades de natation. Ces dernières se tiendront le 10 mars, pour
tous nos élèves du Secondaire ; le lendemain ce sera au tour de nos élèves du Primaire de plus de
huit ans. A n’en point douter, le beau temps, les sourires et la bonne humeur seront au rendez-vous
! Nous vous les ferons partager quasiment en simultané par le biais de notre page Facebook.
- Tous les derniers vendredi du mois, un défi est posé aux élèves et professeurs du Primaire dans le
cadre de la senibilisation aux enjeux du développement durable. Ce dernier vendredi, les élèves
étaient invités à porter un t-shirt ou un polo vert et à répondre au défi : Ne faisons pas d’erreurs
aujourd’hui dans nos poubelles! Le début d'une sensibilisation à l’importance du recyclage, dans notre
école. Le défi du 26 mars prochain : « Pour le goûter du matin, apportez des fruits ». Un grand merci
à Mme Aurore Severac qui pilote le projet.
- De nombreux clubs se sont mis en place ces dernières semaines, pendant la pause déjeuner au
Primaire, afin de développer d’autres compétences, chez nos élèves, en dehors de la classe.
Journalisme, théâtre, arts visuels, jardinage et sciences… : il y en a pour tous les goûts. Et je tiens à
saluer ce nouvel engagement des enseignants qui donnent de leur temps pour cette offre variée.
- Cette année, le lycée organise des séances de tutorat par niveau pour les élèves du courant
français, de la 5ème à la Terminale. Lors de ces séances animées par M. Fabien GUIRAUD,
professeur français du Secondaire, les élèves seront principalement accompagnés pour améliorer
l'organisation et la gestion de leur travail, mais aussi la méthodologie. Par ailleurs, une aide
disciplinaire (maths, sciences et français) sera également apportée. Pour les élèves concernés, ces
séances seront l'occasion de faire un bilan, de travailler des points précis de manière personnalisée
et de fixer des objectifs sur le long terme.

Chaque année, nos élèves participent au concours Castor informatique. Ce concours vise à faire découvrir
aux jeunes l'informatique et les sciences du numérique. Il couvre divers aspects de l'informatique :
information et représentation, pensée algorithmique, utilisation des applications, structures de données, jeux
de logique, informatique et société. L'édition 2020 a été un grand succès avec 524 914 participants dans
3045 établissements de près de 50 pays, dont le nôtre. Tous les élèves des cycles 3 et 4 du lycée franco-
australien ont participé et 27 d’entre eux ont obtenu des résultats impressionnants, très bien placés au
classement national. Un grand bravo à eux et à nos professeurs dont l’enseignement permet cette réussite.
Un grand merci à Mme LAMARQUE, professeure française de mathématiques du Secondaire, pour piloter
cette belle opération valorisant nos élèves et notre établissement.

Lundi dernier, notre école a célébré la Journée internationale de la langue maternelle. Cette journée
consacre la reconnaissance du Mouvement pour la Langue commémoré au Bangladesh depuis 1952, quand
la police ouvrit le feu sur la foule des locuteurs de bengali manifestant pour leurs droits linguistiques à Dhaka,
alors que le Bangladesh faisait partie du Pakistan. Deux classes de Y8 se sont rendues devant le monument
érigé aux martyrs et les élèves ont eu le privilège d'écouter S.E. M. Mohammed Sufiur Rahman, Haut-
commissaire du Bangladesh en Australie et la conseillère (politique) Mme Tahleel Moon, expliquer
l'importance de cette journée. Un grand merci à Meredith Box et Natalie Bray pour l’organisation de cette
journée importante de sensibilisation.
Canberra est rentrée avec Telopea Park School/ Lycée franco-australien dans les célébrations de la
francophonie.
Le 4 mars marquera le lancement d’un événement culturel majeur, le Festival du Film français organisé
par notre Alliance française, avec le soutien de notre ambassade et d’autres représentations diplomatiques.
Près de 37 films français seront projetés sur les écrans des principales métropoles australiennes dont la
capitale Canberra, jusqu’au 31 mars. Ne manquez pas cette occasion de découvrir la richesse du cinéma
français – films sous-titrés en anglais-

Des films pour tous les âges et tous les goûts dont Telopea Park School/ le lycée franco-australien devrait
profiter. La plupart de nos élèves des classes allant du CE2 à la Year 10 devraient assister à des projections
de films en semaine 7.
Nos élèves participent également à des concours pour célébrer à leur manière la francophonie. La Semaine
de la langue française et de la francophonie se déroulera du 15 au 19 mars. Elle permet de célébrer la
langue française à travers de nombreuses animations organisées partout en France et à l'étranger.
L’Ambassade de France, les ambassades de pays membres de l’Organisation Internationale de la
Francophonie et l’Alliance française pilotent cette célébration sur Canberra. Certaines de nos classes se
sont lancées dans la compétition. La chorale de Telopea sera également de la fête, le 19 mars prochain, à
l’Alliance française, pour interpréter l’hymne de la francophonie.
La veille, sera donné, le 18 mars après-midi, dans le hall du Secondaire de Telopea, aux élèves de 5ème- 4ème
et les élèves de Y7 et Y8, apprenant le français, le spectacle TIGUIDOU avec le concours du Haut
Commissariat du Canada.
Toutes ces actions ne pourraient se faire sans le travail conséquent de préparation, d’organisation,
d’encadrement menés par nombre de nos professeurs et mon secrétariat dont je salue l’engagement à
développer chez nos élèves, des compétences complémentaires à celles travaillées au sein de la salle de
classe.

Réunions de Rentrée
Afin d’expliquer aux familles les attentes de notre établissement pour cette année scolaire, des réunions
d’information se sont tenues avec toutes les classes du Primaire.
Au Secondaire, une rencontre avec les professeurs en charge des contact groups a été organisée avec les
responsables des élèves de Year 7. Le 18 février dernier, j’ai animé avec les professeurs principaux, une
réunion d’information à destination des parents de 5ème sur l’année qui commence, les attentes du courant
français ainsi que les études françaises à Telopea.
Le 24 février, j’ai pu présenter les études au lycée ainsi que le nouveau baccalauréat aux élèves de Seconde
qui vont bientôt devoir se déterminer sur les trois spécialités qu’ils suivront en classe de Première.
Le 11 février, nos élèves de Terminale et leur famille ont reçu des explications sur la plate-forme d’orientation
dans l’enseignement post-baccalauréat français PARCOURSUP. Nos Terminales disposent jusqu’au 11
mars pour formuler et saisir des vœux d’université ou de grandes écoles françaises sur cette plate-forme.

Cela m’amène à insister sur l’importance d’une communication de qualité entre l’établissement et les
responsables des élèves. En cas de souci, les responsables légaux ne doivent pas hésiter à
demander un entretien avec les professeurs, voire les « executive teachers », dans le Primaire. Dans
le Secondaire, vos interlocuteurs sont les professeurs des différentes disciplines, les professeurs
principaux du courant français, ceux en charge des contact groups, des niveaux et surtout notre
service Vie scolaire pilotée par Mme Kylie LOUISE.
Comme je le dis régulièrement, « votre enfant réussira si ses responsables légaux, l’équipe
enseignante et lui/elle oeuvrent dans la même direction, dans un esprit de compréhension et
confiance mutuelles »
Pour une meilleure reconnaissance du baccalauréat français par les universités australiennes.
Dans la continuité des rencontres des années précédentes avec des représentants du groupe des huit
meilleures universités australiennes, les contacts se poursuivent et se renforcent.
Ces rencontres nous permettent d’obtenir les contacts d’interlocuteurs à qui nous adressons des informations
précises sur le baccalauréat français et à qui nous pouvons soumettre les situations des quelques bacheliers
rencontrant des difficultés pour rejoindre la faculté de leur choix.
A destination de ces universités et avec leur concours, le lycée Condorcet et le lycée franco-australien ont
élaboré un livret qui les présente, présente le nouveau baccalauréat français ainsi que les contenus des
programmes de Première et de Terminale. il est désormais accessible en ligne sur notre site internet, à

Nous prévoyons également de l’imprimer. Ainsi tous les membres de notre communauté éducative auront
une idée précise du baccalauréat français, des contenus, des manières d’enseigner et d’évaluer. Les
organismes supérieurs australiens connaîtront ainsi mieux le profil de nos élèves et UAC ou d’autres
instances auront une meilleure connaissance de l’examen pour une conversion plus fine et adaptée de
l’ATAR avec les résultats du baccalauréat français.

Evaluations nationales dans le Primaire et examens Les compétences des élèves de CP et de CE1 en français et en mathématiques ont été évaluées en semaines 3 et 4 par les professeurs français puis, pour les CP, elles le seront de nouveau lors d'un point d'étape en août. Conçues dans un esprit de bienveillance, les évaluations sont destinées à identifier avec précision les forces et les faiblesses de chacun des élèves, à l'âge décisif de l'entrée dans la lecture, l'écriture et le calcul. Il s'agit de mieux connaître chaque élève pour l'accompagner au mieux dans ses apprentissages. Le programme australien d'évaluation de la petite enfance utilise BASE pour évaluer les compétences en lecture, en phonétique et en calcul des élèves en Kindergarten. Il y a deux évaluations, la première se déroulant au cours des semaines 3 et 4 du trimestre 1 et la seconde, au cours des semaines 2 et 3 du trimestre 4. Les données BASE sont également utilisées pour identifier, le plus tôt possible, les élèves qui pourraient avoir besoin d'un soutien supplémentaire. Elles aident les enseignants australiens à planifier des expériences d'apprentissage appropriées pour chaque enfant de la classe. Tous les élèves de 3ème, 1ère et Terminale sont désormais inscrits aux examens nationaux français. Le Brevet et les examens finaux du Baccalauréat français devraient avoir lieu en juin 2021. Toutefois, nous ne sommes pas encore sûrs qu’ils se dérouleront comme prévu, le tout dépendra de l’évolution de la situation sanitaire en France et dans le monde. D’ailleurs, à la fin du mois de janvier, nous avons eu connaissance des premiers changements concernant le bac 2021. Les examens qui étaient prévus durant cette année pour nos Première et Terminale sont remplacés par le contrôle continu. Seuls sont pour l’instant maintenus les examens de juin 2021. Depuis 2019, le lycée franco-australien est centre de tous les examens français. La correction des copies de tous les examens est dématérialisée. Quoi qu’il en soit, nous organiserons également cette année des examens blancs pour permettre à nos élèves de se préparer au mieux. Les examens écrits blancs du brevet auront lieu pour nos élèves de 3ème, les 1er et 2 avril prochains, à Telopea. Le 22 février, nos élèves de Year10 ont participé à des tables rondes pour présenter à un panel, l’état d’avancée de leurs projets personnels relevant du MYP. Un grand merci à notre collègue Kirsty HILSON qui a tout supervisé, aux enseignants et aux élèves de Year 9, afin d’encourager ces élèves et leur donner un certain nombre de recommandations. Nouvelles du côté des personnels enseignants.
Nous regrettons de voir partir Mme Anaïs PEREZ, professeure des écoles et M. Boris GRUNDLER
enseignant les mathématiques, les sciences et la technologie en 6ème, 3ème et 2nde, également en charge de
notre communication ; ils doivent tous les deux regagner la France pour raisons professionnelles.
Je les remercie pour leur professionnalisme et leur engagement au service de la réussite de leurs élèves.
Mme Karine HENDRIKS succèdera à M. Boris GRUNDLER.
Et c’est Mme Magali ROZBORSKI actuellement en France qui succèdera à Mme Anaïs PEREZ, professeure
du Primaire en CE1. Mme ROZBORSKI vient d’obtenir le visa et l’exemption nécessaires pour nous rejoindre
d’ici la fin du mois de mars, le temps de la quatorzaine passé. Dans l’attente, elle travaillera avec Mme Elsa
DEAN qui la remplacera.
Je tiens à remercier Mme DEAN pour le remplacement qu’elle s’apprête à effectuer ainsi que pour le
remplacement de Mme Anne-Laure PAYET qu’elle a exercé durant le mois de février, avec la classe de KG2.
Ayant dû rentrer pour des raisons familiales, Mme PAYET prend en charge sa classe, ce lundi 1er mars.
Engagements de l’Agence pour l’Enseignement français à l’étranger - AEFE
L’AEFE a mis en place, l’an dernier, un plan d’aide aux écoles françaises de l’étranger impactées par la crise
du covid. J’ai demandé à ce que notre établissement bénéficie de la phase 2 de ce plan pour compenser les
frais de remplacement supplémentaires occasionnés l’an dernier avec l’arrivée tardive des nouveaux
enseignants. A ce titre, nous avons reçu la somme substantielle de 50 000 dollars, il y a une dizaine de jours.
Nos professeurs français continuent, quant à eux, de se former dans le cadre de stages organisés par l’AEFE
en ligne, avec des séances synhrones et asynchrones.
Enfin nous accueillerons prochainement l’enseignante experte AEFE du Primaire exerçant au lycée français
de Sydney depuis octobre 2020. Celle-ci travaille depuis juillet dernier avec Myriam Nouveau et Alisha Tooma
sur la relecture de notre curriculum bilingue et binational harmonisé dans le Primaire . Mme Michèle Lacoste
viendra travailler avec nos équipes en présentiel, normalement, les 29 et 30 avril prochains.
ASSOCIATION DES ANCIENS ELEVES DU
LYCEE FRANCO-AUSTRALIEN DE CANBERRA
TELOPEA PARK SCHOOL
Le 9 septembre 2023, l’établissement fêtera son 100e anniversaire. A cette occasion, nous souhaitons
dynamiser l’association des anciens élèves et ainsi permettre aux anciens élèves de garder un contact les
uns avec les autres et avec leur ancien établissement.
L’association ALFAC permet ainsi aux un(e)s et aux autres de créer les liens d’un réseau rendant possible
des opportunités professionnelles, de redonner vie aux amitiés passées et aussi de témoigner de
parcours de vie auprès des élèves actuels et futurs.

Pour nous aider à maintenir la qualité de notre enseignement bilingue, nous invitons à nouveau les familles
du Primaire et celles du courant EFS Secondaire à s’acquitter de la contribution financière qui est
demandée à titre volontaire. – Pour de plus amples informations, merci de vous renseigner auprès de nos
services administratifs.

Et surtout n’oubliez pas. Merci de vous conformer aux recommandations d’hygiène et aux gestes «barrière
» exigés par les circonstances.
Rappel:
- Le personnel et les élèves doivent rester chez eux s'ils présentent des signes ou des
symptômes d’infection
- Si l’un ou plusieurs des membres du foyer a subi le test de dépistage du Covid19, tous
les membres du foyer doivent rester au domicile dans l’attente des résultats négatifs.
- Nous demandons aux parents de limiter leur temps de présence à l'école, de s'enregistrer en
utilisant les QR codes ‘Check In CBR’ situés dans l'école et de maintenir des protocoles de
distanciation physique avec les personnes qui ne sont pas membres de la famille.
- Nous demandons également que, jusqu'à nouvel ordre, les parents évitent d'entrer dans les
salles de classe et les bâtiments, à l'exception des bureaux de l’administration.
Les différentes équipes de personnels se joignent à moi pour vous souhaiter ainsi qu’à vos enfants deux très

Message aux familles
Si vous rencontrez des difficultés financières au cours de l’année, n’hésitez pas à
envoyer un courriel au Principal et/ou à prendre rendez-vous avec lui afin de voir
comment l’école peut vous venir en aide. Le Fonds Social de l’établissement peut être
utilisé à cet effet. Chaque élève de notre école a les mêmes droits à l’éducation.
REPORT FROM THE FRENCH PRINCIPAL
Dear students and parents,
We are now halfway through Term 1, after a successful start of the school year in early February.
As of Friday 19 February, 1,549 students are enrolled at Telopea Park School/Lycée franco-australien de
Canberra; 776 of them are schooled in the French Stream, from Kindergarten to Year 10; and 42 students
are in their Senior Years at Narrabundah College.
Once again this year, we are pleased to see that the school population continues to increase, in both EFS
and English streams. A third EFS Year 7 class has been created and our second EFS Year 10 class has
been maintained. A new demountable has been installed, with two classrooms accommodating, in a few
days, our Secondary students for their Health classes. In the interim, most classes have been reallocated to
the secondary library space. However, sustainable solutions must be studied to increase our workspaces,
reduce the waiting list in the Primary sector and continue to absorb our projected enrolments.

Upgrades to the roof of buildings continued during the summer break and are well underway. The work is
complete for the Kindergarten and Year 3 classes building; the scaffolding has been removed. Three of the
four Year 3 classrooms with frequent water leaks have been refurbished and equipped with air conditioning.
Flooring has also been installed in these rooms and in a Year 2 classroom.
Roof upgrades to the Secondary school building with the brick corridor also took place during the summer
break and were completed in early February.
Campus upgrades are continuing in other parts of the school and we hope to see them completed as soon
as possible.
As usual, our teams have worked hard to welcome our students in the best way possible; all have united their
efforts to ensure the success of all students. I would particularly like to thank our Business Manager, Ms.
Mary Ryan, and her administrative team for their amazing work and I warmly thank our janitors Nick
Kolundzija and Ray Scerri for their ongoing involvement. Mary has been promoted and is taking on new
responsibilities at the Directorate of Education this semester. We wish her all the best in her new position
and welcome Mr. Hayden Weeks who will replace Mary.
This year, we are happy to be return to a sense of normalcy, despite subsisting restrictions, and to be able
to resume or launch new projects:
- the “virtual” Swimming Championships bring together students from all AEFE schools in the Asia-
Pacific region. This project is led by the Lycée Condorcet in Sydney. Our Primary PE teacher, Mr.
Thibault Legouëff, is actively preparing a team of Year 4 to 6 students for the competition.
- Thibault Legouëff and Megan Taylor and her Secondary PE team are also actively preparing students
for the Swimming Carnivals. The Secondary Swimming Carnival will be held on 10 March, and the
Primary Swimming Carnival on 11 March for all our Primary students aged 8 and older. These will
surely be fun and happy days with beautiful weather! You will be able to stream the event live on our
Facebook page.
- Every last Friday of the month, our Primary students and teachers take up a collective challenge to
raise their awareness of the issues of sustainable development. Last Friday, students were invited
to wear a green t-shirt or polo shirt and take up the challenge: “Don’t get mixed up: put the right trash
in the right bin”. The challenge marks the beginning of a reflection on the importance of recycling in
our school. Our next challenge (Friday 26 March) will be: "Bring a fruit for your morning snack". A big
thank you to Aurore Severac who leads the project.
- many projects have been set up for our Primary students by the French and
Australian teachers during lunch time. This is a great opportunity for them to develop new skills
outside the classroom. There is something for every taste: journalism workshop, drama club, visual
arts classes, gardening club, science club… Thank you to the teachers who generously give their
time.
- This year, the school is organizing tutoring sessions for EFS students of each year level, from Year
7 to Year 12. During these sessions led by Mr. Fabien Guiraud, a Secondary French teacher, the
students will learn how to improve their organisation skills and their time management, as well as
acquire effective work methods. In addition, learning support in Math, Science and French will be
available. The teacher in charge will be able to make a full assessment of the students’ specific needs,
provide tailored support and help them set long-term objectives.
Years 7 and 8 - Odd weeks: Thursdays, from 3:15 pm to 4:15 p.m.

Every year, our students participate in the Concours Castor Informatique. This competition aims to
introduce young people to computers and digital sciences. It covers various aspects of computer science:
information and representation, algorithmic thinking, use of applications, data structures, logic games,
computer science and society. The 2020 edition was a great success with 524,914 participants in 3,045
schools in nearly 50 countries, including Australia. All our Year 5 to 9 students took part in the competition

and 27 of them obtained impressive results. Congratulations to our students and to our teachers. A big thank you to Ms. Lamarque, our Secondary Math teacher, for organizing this great event that acknowledges our students’ talents and promotes our school. Last Monday our school celebrated the International Mother Language Day. This special day paying tribute to the Language movement, has been a national holiday in Bangladesh since 1952, when the police opened fire on rallies organized by the students of the University of Dhaka to defend Bengali as their mother tongue. Two Year 8 classes gathered in front of the school’s war memorial and listened to H. E. Mr. Mohammad Sufiur Rahman, High Commissioner for the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Australia, and Ms. Tahleel Dilawar Moon, Political Counsellor and Head of Chancery. Thank you to Meredith Box and Natalie Bray for organizing this multilingualism awareness day. Celebrations of the Francophonie have started in Canberra and at Telopea Park School / Lycée franco- australien de Canberra. The French Film Festival will be launched on 04 March. This major cultural event is organized by the Alliance Française, with the support of the French Embassy and other diplomatic missions. Nearly thirty-seven French films will be screened in major Australian cities, including Canberra, until 31 March. Do not miss this opportunity to discover the richness of French filmmaking with a variety of subtitled movies. Students from Telopea Park School / Lycée franco-australien de Canberra will be able to enjoy movies for all ages and tastes. Many of our Year 3 to 10 students will be able to attend a movie session in Week 7. Our students also take part in competitions to celebrate Francophonie in their own way. The French Language and Francophonie Week will take place from 15 to 19 March. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the French language with numerous events organised in France and across the world. The French Embassy, embassies belonging to the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), and the Alliance Française are staging the celebrations in Canberra. Some of our classes have entered the competition. On this occasion, the school choir will be performing the Francophonie anthem at the Alliance française on 19 March. Page 9 of 31
On 18 March, our Year 7 and 8 EFS students, as well as Year 7 and 8 students studying French in the
Australian stream, will attend the show entitled TIGUIDOU in the Main Hall. The show is organized with the
support of the Canadian High-Commission.
There would be no such events without the hard work of our dedicated teachers and administrative staff
involved in planning, organizing and supervising. I acknowledge their commitment to develop extra-curricular
skills in our students.
Parent Information nights
The purpose of the parent information nights that were held across the Primary sector is to explain the
school’s expectations for this school year.
In the Secondary sector, Year 7 parents/carers could meet with contact group teachers.
On 18 February an information night was held for Year 7 students and their families to present the French
stream and explain the academic expectations for the school year.
On 24 February, Year 10 students and their families were given more information on the new French
Baccalaureate. Students will soon have to decide on the three specialty courses (three teaching majors) they
will take in Year 11.
On 11 February, our Year 12 students and their families were given detailed information on PARCOURSUP,
the platform implemented for the university entrance admission procedure. Year 12 students have until 11
March to register, elaborate and confirm their university or ‘Grandes Écoles’ choices online through the
ParcourSup website.

I can’t emphasize enough the importance of a high-quality communication between the school and
parents/carers. Should you have any concern, please do not hesitate to meet with the teachers, or

For a better recognition of the French Baccalaureate by Australian universities.
Following on from last year's meetings with representatives of the eight best Australian universities, contacts
are continuing.
These meetings enable us to send precise information on the new French baccalaureate to specific
interlocutors and to outline the situation of the few baccalaureate students experiencing difficulties in enrolling
in the university of their choice.
Lycée Condorcet and Telopea Park School / Lycée franco-australien have written a booklet aimed at
Australian universities, introducing the new French Baccalaureate and detailing the new Year 11 and 12

We also plan to print the booklet. All members of our school community will thus have a full understanding of
the French Baccalaureate, its contents, teaching and assessment methods. Australian higher education
institutions will thus have a better knowledge of our students' profiles and UAC or other bodies will have a
better knowledge of the exam for a more refined and tailored ATAR conversion of the French Baccalaureate
results.
Page 10 of 31Primary French National Tests and exams Year 1 and 2 students took the French national tests in French and Mathematics in Weeks 3 and 4. A new test will be held next August for Year 1 students only. These diagnostic assessments are designed to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student and better support them in the early ages of literacy and numeracy in a caring environment. These assessments enable teachers to know each student to better support them in their learning. Australian BASE assessments are used to assess literacy, numeracy, communication and language in Kindergarten.The first assessments take place in Weeks 3 and 4 of Term 1, and the second assessments in Weeks 2 and 3 of Term 4. BASE assessments provide insight that can be acted upon to support the development of every child. It allows teachers to quickly identify what children know and can do at the start of the school year, and helps staff identify what support children need to help them progress. They help Australian teachers plan appropriate learning experiences for each child in the class. All Year 9, Year 11 and Year 12 students have now registered for the French national exams. The Diplôme National du Brevet and the French Baccalaureate will be held in June 2021. However, we
are not yet sure if they will take place in the planned format, depending on the evolution of the health situation
in France and around the world.
In fact, at the end of January, we were informed of a few changes concerning the 2021 baccalaureate session.
The exams that were planned for this year for our Year 11 and 12 students are being replaced by continuous
testing. So far, only the June 2021 exams have been maintained. Since 2019 Telopea Park School / Lycée
franco-australien de Canberra has been the Examination Centre for all French exams. The marking of all
the exam papers is now dematerialized.
Once again this year we will hold mock exams to allow our students to familiarize themselves with the exam
format in the best possible way. Written mock exams for the Brevet will be held for our Year 9 students on
01 and 02 April at Telopea Park School.
On 22 February, our Year 10 students undertook their Round Table presentations. Students presented their
research and their plans to complete their Personal Project (MYP). Thank you to Kirstie HILSON who
coordinated the event, and the teachers and Year 9 students who sat on the panels to listen and give
feedback to the Year 10 student presentations.
New teaching staff
Sadly, Ms. Anaïs Perez, our Year 2 Primary teacher, and Mr. Boris Grundler, our Year 6, 9 and 10 Math,
Science and Technology teacher and communication officer, are leaving the school for professional reasons.
Both were very professional and committed to their students’ success.
Ms. Karine Hendriks will replace Mr. Boris Grundler.
Ms. Magali Rozborski, currently in France, will replace Ms. Anaïs Perez. Ms. Rozborski has just been granted
her visa and her exemption to enter Australia. She will join the school at the end of March, after completing
the quarantine requirements. In the meantime, she will be working hand in hand with Ms. Elsa DEAN, who
will be teaching her class.
I would like to thank Ms. Elsa Dean for taking over from Ms. Anne-Laure Payet last February. Ms Payet had
to return to France for family reasons and is now back with her KG2 students.
Commitments of the AEFE
Last year, the AEFE set up an assistance plan to help French schools abroad affected by the Covid-19 crisis.
I requested that our school benefit from phase 2 of this plan to compensate for last year’s additional costs to
hire relief teachers due to the late arrival of new teachers. As such, we received the substantial amount of
$50,000 about ten days ago.
Our French teachers continue to undertake online professional development developed by the AEFE, with
synchronous and asynchronous sessions.
Finally, we will soon welcome the AEFE expert teacher who has been working at the French School of Sydney
since October 2020. She has been working since last July with Myriam Nouveau and Alisha Tooma on the
revision of our harmonized bilingual and binational Primary curriculum. Mrs. Michèle Lacoste will be coming
to work with our teams on 29 and 30 April.

They have enthusiastically participating in the Peer Support Program run by the Year 10 Peer Support Leaders every Thursday during their enrichment lesson. This program is helping our Year 7 students build connections with their contact group and work collaboratively in challenging activities. This program will run for the remainder of the term for our Year 7 students. In Personal & Social students are working on their orientation and transition into high school with their contact group teachers. Year 7 student’s will have their first round of immunisations on the 15th-16th of March. Our Year 7 Activities day has been booked for the Page 14 of 31
24th and 25th of May at Camp Cooba and information will soon be sent home to all parents/carers regarding this excursion. Year 8 students have brought lots of energy into the academic year and are working on their communications skills during their Personal & Social lessons. Our Year 8’s will celebrate the end of Term 1 this year with their Year 8 Challenge Day on the 1st of April. This will be held at Camp Cooba, led by their Year Coordinator Cade Williams. It will be a wonderful opportunity for students to further develop their teamwork skills and grow through a shared experience. They are sure to return to us muddy, tired, but with big smiles. Year 9 students have made an enthusiastic start to the year and are adjusting to new classes and challenges with the support of their classroom teachers and Year Coordinator Sheree Avard. In Week 3 some of our Year 9 students sat on panels for our Year 10 Personal Project Round Tables, this provided them with an insight into Personal Projects which they will be beginning in Term 4 of this year. Year 10 students are growing into their role as leaders of our school under the direction of Year Coordinator Melanie Consola. Our peer support leaders started school a day early to assist the Year 7s on their first day. They have since worked tirelessly to support Year 7s to settle into high school life. Our SRC with assistance from other Year 10 students ran a very successful Valentine’s Day fundraiser for the year 10 formal. All students participated in Personal Project Round Tables and are now working to complete their Personal Projects which are due later this year. Over the next two terms Year 10’s will be involved in the MurriMatters program that focus on leadership and student voice during our Personal & Social lessons. PRIMARY NEWS Primary Swimming Carnival: We are looking forward to our upcoming Primary Swimming Carnival which will be held on Thursday 11th March at Dickson Aquatic Centre for students in Years 3-6 and those eligible students in Year 2. Our Primary Sporting House Captains, along with our Year 10 Leadership Students will have the opportunity to apply their leadership skills in assisting with the organisation on the day. They always make an incredible contribution to the day and we would like to thank them in advance for their efforts. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will only be able to provide entry to 10 parent volunteers on the day and are unable to offer a spectator option for parents and carers this year. We hope to return to inviting parents and carers again in 2022. Please encourage your child to bring ‘sun smart’ clothing and sunscreen on the day. Primary School Photos: Primary School Photos took place this Friday for all students in Kindergarten to Year 6. Many families also chose to have family portraits taken on the day. If your child/children were absent on the day, we will be holding a catch-up day on Friday 12th March for individual photos and family portraits. SRC Most of our Student Representatives for the Student Representative Council (SRC) have been elected already and our first meeting for years 4-6 was held last Tuesday. The first meeting for Kindergarten to year 3 students will be in this coming week. The students are helping to organise a day to promote no bullying at Telopea Park School. The ‘Bullying-No Way!’ National Day of Action is on Friday 19 March. Students will learn about bullying and how to stop it in their life, school and community. I can’t wait to see what else our SRC students come up with this year! Value Awards Last year we introduced a values award system. We hope you have had a great start to the year. Enrichment and Extension Programs G.A.T.E.WAYS Online Programs have new programs this term for students in Year 1 to Year 8. These are extension and enrichment programs. For the first time, they are offering Master classes online for students in Years 6, 7 and 8. These programs run after-school hours and deep-dive into a topic that happens over 4 x 90-minute sessions. They encompass progressive skill building, continuous feedback and focused learning. For students in Years 1 to 6 they are offering Compact Online programs. These programs are during the school day. They run for 2 hours with a 30 minute break in between each hour. school hours and they are:

● Each program is connected by a loose thread but each session has a stand-alone
concept, allowing students to join the program at any time

Students from Year 3 to 5 will be attending the festival. For more information and showing

Primary Music Programs
During week 3 all of our Year 5 students completed an ACT Education Directorate Music
Assessment to support us in selecting this year’s Year 5 Band participants. We would like to
congratulate all of our students for their participation and would like to acknowledge the
outstanding achievements of those who have been selected to participate in the Primary Band
program. We look forward to watching your musical talents develop over the next two years
as you engage with this outstanding program.
Primary Choir auditions took place in week 4 of this term and we would like to congratulate
all students who participated in the audition process. We would like to congratulate the 2021
Primary Choir students on their selection and wish them a wonderful year together. We look
forward to enjoying your performances throughout the year.
