d’hier à aujourd’hui
Montalivet, lieu-dit de la commune de Vendays,
se développe considérablement en 1852, date à
laquelle une station balnéaire y est créée en raison
de l’attrait nouveau pour les bains de mer. C’est à
cette époque que la ville prend le nom de « Vendays-
Montalivet ». Ses habitants perpétuent la tradition et
restent des vendaysins et vendaysines.
Au bout de l’allée principale bordée de commerces
et restaurants, un monument emblématique attend
le visiteur : « La colonne », vierge érigée en 1868 qui
veille sur l’océan. La coutume est d’en faire le tour,
cela porte bonheur. Derrière cette vierge nommée
« Notre-Dame-des-Flots » se trouve le buste de
Jacques Laporte, fondateur de la station.

Naturisme
La station balnéaire est aussi un site réputé pour le naturisme. Le
Centre Hélio-Marin de Vendays-Montalivet dit CHM est le plus
ancien centre de vacances naturiste familial du monde, alliant le
naturisme au balnéaire.
Ouvert en 1950, il est rapidement présenté comme un modèle
international et c’est d’ailleurs au CHM que sera signé en 1953
l’acte de fondation de la Fédération Naturiste Internationale.
Naturism
The seaside resort is also well-known for naturism. The Centre Hélio-Marin in Vendays-
Montalivet, also known as CHM, is the oldest family naturist holiday centre in the world,
